I think it would depend on the age of the children and how responsible the parents are.

Had this issue been rigorously risk assessed with children health as the most important issue.? Are children (on the whole) safer in the shade of an admitted balmy school room or out doors as if on holiday?

Of course there could be legal issues of responsibility. Do the school want the responsibility of looking after children with no AC.

In that case legal responsibility concerns are over riding general safety concerns. Public bodies have been promoting Global warming for two decades but appear to have not prepared mitigations for unusual but not unexpected events like this. What do managers do all day.?

Many classrooms have no shade, large glass windows are the problem.

Teachers sunbathing in their own gardens for a couple of days then.

Working parents having to take an unpaid days off.

How the hell does that rag WOL get away with scaremongering it does amazes me , the children’s crayon department must be running short of dark red because it appears to have all been used up on the now hourly weather map updates . I’m sure Dante’s inferno isn’t as hot as Newtowns going to be over the next few days .

Personally I feel sorry for children living in flats particularly with no outside space and parents who can't be arsed to take them out.

This would be in the risk assessment. Mitigations could be considered like moving class rooms. ( Cheaper than curtains ).

Different rooms has these issues at different times of the day. It is a question of using logic and amendments subject to the prevailing conditions.

We have been talking about Global warming for decades.

Do you really think there are spare classrooms when schools are often using demountables.

Gym , assembly hall , any open area. I never recall being uncomfortable in my aging school in the 1970 s. Not once. There were usually spare rooms in that aging hell hole. NPT is going to max out at a modest 32c. Too hot to expect the teachers to do paperwork on this inferno best to send them home too.

Sun is near vertical this time of year. No much sunlight into classes until after 3 pm..

I think you are starting to make yourself look silly again trying to discuss something you know nothing about. There are teachers who post on here as there are parents and grandparents who visit various schools daily. Best just leave it there, schools and teaching is completely different now to 50 years ago.

Councils have been discussing global warming for two decades. So what has been achieved ? Are you telling me schools are less resilient than in the 1970 and 1980s. ?

Hotter than average summers have been on county council agenda s for some time. Today schools were closed at just over 30c. Mitigations ? None it seems ?

Turkish kids are a lot tougher than our lot it seems.

I do not attend schools these days and they are not well designed it seems with no shade and no spare capacity. Global warming has been on the menu for twenty years but the authorities have not come up with any mitigating plans . Just shut down at 30c and go home.

Logically schools should be able to function in the summer. It's a well known fact that children are most at risk when off school. So what is the justification.? What is the risk assessment?

Wales has the worst education outcome in UK. No wonder.

Turkish kids need to be tougher because Turkish health and safety is absolutely appalling and yes I have visited several times.

I never worked on the furnaces, or whatever. I worked at Tata for 12yrs with a contractor all over the works. Worked at the Civil department for a time as well.

And it wasn't good, I eventually got my act together and got out best decision I ever made.

And I don't suffer fools, you may or may not have realised that, probably the latter no doubt.

Not at this time of the year, apparently the sun doesn't shine through the windows until after 3. I must be hallucinating at the moment.
