| NHS Overpaying staff or not for some 18:13 - Jul 14 with 2231 views | Boundy | "A health board boss has received a £30,000 pay increase amid an ongoing dispute between the health board and some of its workers who claim they are being underpaid. Amid the dispute Unite the union claim the director of Cwm Taf health board has received a pay increase and say the health visitors will continue to strike. The health board said it is "disappointed" with the union's decision to extend strike action. Unite say Hywel Daniel has received a £30,000 pay increase on top of his £200,000 earnings.". So theres no jobs or money for front line staff but this balloon is worth paying more than a Prime Minister !!! https://www.walesonline.co.uk/ | |

| NHS Overpaying staff or not for some on 18:48 - Jul 14 with 1823 views | majorraglan | That works out as a 15% pay rise which on the face of it and in my opinion is outrageous and scandalous. What the article doesn’t say is how that award of 15% came about, buts a lot of cash at a time when health boards are cutting their budgets. Going back to the Health Visitors pay claim, if they’ve been regraded as Band 7s following a fair and transparent job evaluation process and their pay band is the same as other Health Visitors in other Heath Boards areas then the pay rise should defo be awarded. If the job evaluation has delivered something that’s at odds with other Healthboard areas, then it should be reviewed and if it’s wrong the je results are reversed, if it’s right they have to pay out. We have an All Wales NHS and jobs should, by and large be the same grade across all 7 health boards. | | | |

Sounds about right. Job evaluations are meant to be independent and don’t pay attention to budget pressures in many cases. Just based on facts. It would be lovely if those on lower wages were paid more but sadly 30k won’t do that.

Never again should any in the public eye spout that the NHS is grossly underfunded because it isn’t , it’s just going to the wrong people.

It’s a pretty big job he’s got. I wonder what the private sector equivalent would be?

Quite possibly because the big companies really look after their top people. The big companies will probably pay more, offer profit sharing bonuses and share options. Guy I know is the regional manager for a national company, his pay is £160k per year and his bonus is the same. They have far less employees and budget than the guy in Fwm Taf who heads up an organisation of 12,500 employees.

I don’t know. That role is responsible for over 10,000 staff. I can’t really think of an equivalent to check pay in the private sector but it doesn’t seem crazy to me. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

The NHS isn’t a profit or loss service. If this guy is overseeing the delivery of top quality services within budget then I’d regard that as the equivalent of turning a profit because he’s delivering what he’s been asked to, if he’s not delivering he should get the boot.
| NHS Overpaying staff or not for some on 09:12 - Jul 15 with 1362 views | 3swan | Comparing public head v private head is difficult as short and long-term goals are different. Also one depends on sales etc the other a fixed amount In saying that, neither do it in their own and down to having a good team to implement policies and budgets | | | |

A couple of questions , just what is his job and if its the same as other Health Boards then why is it replicated , is his value worth more than say the PM and if you think it is than why ?

but....isn't that a massive problem of the NHS - so many people getting paid to support and manage people who do. I don't know how many times I have heard that phrase "what the fekk does she get paid for most of the time she is sticking her nose in and has absolutely no idea what I do"

He like others have no doubt indirectly caused lives to be lost because of decisions made, cutting in costs made in the wrong areas, people will tell you that doesn't happen no doubt. A bed manager made a decision to move my youngest to a covid infected ward, when he had an acute chest infection could have been one, Luckily my Mrs and our nurse stopped it, she wouldn't come and speak to the Mrs.

Since February 2025 47 Doctors & 117 nurses have been employed by the Welsh NHS , all from overseas . Planning obviously isn’t part of his remit or is it .

I would be interested to know where you got those figures from because I don't believe they release the figures. I was led to believe the figures were much higher because of those who finished training last year and were employed. Its not the case this year because there are no guaranteed jobs for those finishing training.
