| Jeremias James 13:52 - Aug 11 with 5741 views | TenbySwan | Is a left sided central defender, a fifth generation Argentinian of Welsh descent, who would love to play for a Welsh team. He is a Welsh speaker who lives in the Welsh speaking part of Patagonia. Perhaps we should invite him for a trial ! This article in Welsh on BBC tells his story, sorry I'm not sure how to translate, but I'm sure many can https://www.bbc.co.uk/cymrufyw | | | | |
| Jeremias James on 14:47 - Aug 11 with 4594 views | ncswan | A left-footed CB! Here is the English translation of the Welsh text: "Owain Llyr BBC Wales Sport Published10 August 2026 There has been a history and a special connection between Wales and Argentina for over 150 years. In 1865, there were about 160 Welsh people on board the ship Mimosa who went over to Patagonia to establish Y Wladfa [The Colony], and to create somewhere to keep the language, their culture, and their religion free from English influence.Welsh is still spoken there, while over 50,000 residents of Patagonia are of Welsh descent. One of those is Jeremias James." "Jeremias was born and raised in Trelew, a city founded by the Welshman Lewis Jones in 1886.The city is in the province of Chubut—Gaiman, Dolafon, Puerto Madryn, and Trevelin are also located there.'I am part of a Welsh family that moved to southern Argentina and settled there,' Jeremias said in a special interview with BBC Wales.'Five generations of my family have been born in Trelew, and that is where they have made their home for many long years now.'Following the first voyage to Patagonia in 1865, a further influx of Welsh emigrants was seen. Some ships came from Wales, and others from the United States where Welsh people had moved over to farm.'Looking at my family history, the first member to travel over to Patagonia was William James on a ship from the United States. "In addition to his Welsh roots, Jeremias has a powerful personal story to tell. When he was nine years old he was diagnosed with leukemia, and he had to move to Buenos Aires to receive treatment.'I had to undergo treatment for about two years before returning to Trelew, and then very slowly getting to start living a normal life once again.'After recovering, he started playing for youth teams in Chubut before he was scouted by the San Lorenzo academy in Buenos Aires, which is one of the biggest clubs in Argentina. After playing his first match for San Lorenzo in Argentina's top division in 2022, he spent periods on loan with clubs Barracas Central, Deportivo Riestra, and Alvarado. Now 25 years old, he plays for Magallanes in Chile, and he joined them permanently earlier this year after a successful loan spell there.Playing for Wales an option? Despite the strong Welsh connections, it is unlikely that Jeremias is available to play for Wales.FIFA rules dictate that parents or grandparents must have been born in the country they wish to represent. But although the current rules do not work in his favor, he is eager to learn more about his family history.'I was born and raised in Argentina, but obviously I have been aware of the Welsh connection for a long time,' Jeremias said.'As a footballer, it is completely natural to be interested in playing for a national team if there are family connections.'To start with, I would love to visit Wales. I have never had the opportunity to go there, and I would love to get the chance to look deeper into my family history.'That is a dream for me, and I am sure I will be able to fulfill that dream one day.'And of course, if there were an opportunity to play in Wales, whether that be for the national team or for a club, that would be something special.'" "A left-footed center-back, Jeremias is also strong in the air.He has played regularly for Magallanes this season as they try to win promotion back to the top division in Chile.'I have always been a center-back, and I have enjoyed playing there,' Jeremias explained.'We have been lucky in Argentina over recent years to have a successful national team, with great defenders.'I have admired players like Cristian Romero and Nicolas Otamendi for many years.'It is unlikely that Jeremias will get the opportunity to play on the international stage like some of his heroes. But rules can change in the football world, and if that happens it will certainly be welcomed by the Welsh community in Chubut." | | | |

I have to confess that I used Google to convert the Welsh to English. But it's still a good story. Maybe Vig can arrange him for a visit since his lifelong dream is to travel to Wales.

I mentioned Vig since he's Chilean and Jeremias James is playing for a team in the Chilean 2nd division. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Morning seems Fireboy has started off again He’s infected our North Carolina fan now you Read this carefully … if you believe true misery and sadness is manifested in football then you are cruelly mistaken Bear on mind I have seen much in my lifetime ,which is ebbing away quicker now , especially chronic anxiety and depressive Yesterday I was visiting a care home with my dog and one of the residents was trying to end his life in the bathroom , a 64 yr old with Alzheimer’s , recovering from a stroke yet no family will visit That made him “ miserable” Doubt he was enjoying it You ever been to a suicide where depression is the factor , you smelt the shit, witnessed the blood and simply the ashen face with faraway eyes You been to a suicide where the father goes out to work then returns after the kids and wife have gone out and hangs himself from the bannisters? Miserable bastards aren’t they Eddie the fireman hates me because of what I post That’s his problem He’s a lad isn’t he ? Positive , travels away , goes to games and loves his God Or maybe not Behind a painted smile lies real pain Don’t ever post my way again Be lucky

Tenby and NY are right, you revel in misery, ive known it for 10 years, now more and more are getting to know it. You jump on people when they slag the saes off but when something comes up about wales you are all over it. You obviously didnt read what keef put on about this topic, a few posts before yours, you are turning people away from the forum, a forum that you champion for a great cause Just have a think for a minute, but you wont, you will never change.

OHL, just so you know, FB has not "poisoned" me. A majority of your posts are depressing, and sometimes demeaning. And, a good example of this is when you called this story that Tenby had found written in Welsh, "Sentimental shite" and "Pitiful really", most of us can only shake our heads. I would bet that most of us posters here who read this story of a young man, born in a far-flung jungle outpost of Argentina founded by Welsh people many generations ago, who overcame childhood leukemia, and has now become a professional soccer player...well, that's a pretty impressive story, and better yet, a good read. And then you throw cold water on it by calling it "Sentimental Shite", "Pitiful really". Most of us admire this about the young man: "But although the current rules do not work in his favor, he is eager to learn more about his family history.'I was born and raised in Argentina, but obviously I have been aware of the Welsh connection for a long time,' Jeremias said.'As a footballer, it is completely natural to be interested in playing for a national team if there are family connections.'To start with, I would love to visit Wales. I have never had the opportunity to go there, and I would love to get the chance to look deeper into my family history.'That is a dream for me, and I am sure I will be able to fulfill that dream one day.'And of course, if there were an opportunity to play in Wales, whether that be for the national team or for a club, that would be something special.'" So, how can you call this "Sentimental shite" and "Pitiful really"? To me, that's depressing that you think that way. And, shocking, quite honestly!
