For me it is Jenkins looking after himself. Trying to prove to the Yanks he can justify their decision to keep him in post to run the club on a shoestring. He is therefore trying every bargain basement tactic he can and is being left behind as a result.
All the others are merely trying to recruit players to actually improve their respective clubs and squads without any such restrictions. |  |

Tell you what Rayns. Even if he gets two of three decent players over the line I will still say this was a reckless gamble. It should never have been left this late and has added unnecessary pressure on Clement. Particularly as the silence from Jenkins means PC has to act as his press officer fielding questions on any incoming players.
If history repeats itself though this will not happen and Jenkins will reel out the excuses we have heard in the past.

We finished in good form last season and replaced Cork and Gylfi with Mesa and Clucas.
Got rid of Gomis and secured Abraham.
So far so good.
4 points on the board mid table and Llorente and Ki to come back.
Britton has had a twinge, Mesa bedding in, Clucas like a fagggot to peas and Abraham just netted the type of goal we were expecting to seefrom the lad.
Clement staying put and Makale put pen to paper early to help Mesa and Clucas along.
As expected a few big guns over the bow and still some possibles.
A huge amount of dosh in the bank and a trimmer squad.

I don't think there are many saying the basic first team 11 is not good enough to keep us up. The problem is we have offloaded a load of players leaving our squad paper thin. Also the type of players brought in mean PC is having to go 5 at the and the style of football is suffering. Granted Mesa and Ki might help that.

WBA also about to sign Krychowiak from PSG on loan. Only seen him play a couple of times for PSG and Poland and didn't stand out, but £30m signing last year. Different position to Chadli but maybe the depth they are building in their squad, they'll be happy to let him go for sub £20m. | | | |
