On BBC4 now. My God, he reminds me of Neil Warnock.

I saw Ken Dodd at the London Palladium on our honeymoon just over fifty years. I never thought he'd still be around over 50 years later.
Tongue twister: Ken Dodds Dads dog is dead.

When in Plod, mid eighties, I was a federation rep and we booked Ken Dodd for our annual general meeting

He turned up 30 mins late ,complete with his own favourite tea bags.
He went on stage at just after 8pm and finished just after midnight
He was a force of nature ,trust me.
I was luckily enough to get backstage after he finished and he was chuckling about the coaches that had been made late and said he found it hard to stop .

Clearly a complex man but a simple one and one who prepared in the minutest detail for his shows .
No insults, no swearing and ,if I remember correctly, no political stuff.

He could well die on stage

When he dies, he the last of our great entertainers

Steve.

He came by taxi although he wanted a police vehicle ((bosses car) to transport him. He said a bit thrifty !

My missus worked for his tailor ( honest, ) and he always negotiated hard for his suits .

Mad as a box of frogs ,he is, but a legend he most certainly is .

And he does still live in his original home in Knotty Ash

Met him about 6 years ago when doing some interviews for radio at BBC Merseyside.

Legend, force of nature are all apt. Crazy but a razor-sharp mind. Knew I was a scientist and had a good chat. Was driving the BBC staff nuts.
