So many of those set piece goals were back post headers where:-
The keeper stayed rooted to his line, and,
The header of the ball wasn’t challenged at all by a defender.
If the keeper won’t come then at least challenge for the ball and try to get something on it or nudge the attacker to make it difficult. We got worse as the season progressed at set piece defending. Maybe we were equally sh1t all the way through but teams targeted it as the season progressed and saw how poor we were. |  |

Defenders that can actually defend would be a start. Our defenders were, on the whole, crap last year. A decent defence would have seen us promoted, instead we struggled in a poor championship, enjoyable as it was. |  |

Our defending was good apart from set pieces.

If we all remember our defence was very good in the first third of the season then got gradually worse and i said at the time that we might struggle as the season went on as some players were going to play too many games without sufficient rest as we didnt have a big enough squad i named vdh and mcsocks aa two. This could be one of the reasons along with potter sticking with nordfeldt who as we all know now is like a vampire. |  | | |

It's remarkable how similar Rodon and Chris Mepham's stats were across a number of parameters. Where there is a difference Rodon typically has the better stats. Both played virtually all their games in the first half of the season owing to Mepham's transfer to Bournemouth and Rodon's long-term injury.
So, on the basis that Brentford got £13 million for Mepham, with a further £2 million in add-ons - we should be looking to get at least the same for Rodon. Not that I want him to leave of course, and I think he's unlikely to leave in this window. But if he were to go then if he goes for less than £13 million it will be further evidence that the owners haven't a clue how to run the club, and are still hell-bent on a fire sale. |  | | |

Rodon's a year behind Mepham in terms of exposure. Was already on people's radar before the start of the season, which makes a difference in perceived value.
Bournemouth are a bonkers with their spending on young players, though. Lloyd Kelly's best position is the same as Mepham's according to some (future left-sided centre half rather than fullback) and bigger clubs than them balked at the price. Eddie Howe got a bit excited after Brooks' success, I think.
Our Joe can go further than Mepham. Better frame. Better athlete. Doesn't dawdle on the ball and draw pressure. | | | |

Good points - although Mepham only started to get regular game time for Brentford half-way into last season. So I'd say he only has half a season head start on Rodon. Having seen them play alongside each other for Wales U21s it's really hard to separate them for ability and potential. Interesting to see that Rodon has the better defensive stats than Mepham. Rodon also looks more elegant in possession. My guess is that Rodon will go further - but that both will become established Premier League players. | | | |
