Amen brother. About time this country started being grown up about drugs consumption, like the rest of Europe, Australia, NZ, parts of America ecen (which is unbelievable). We own our bodies. It's nobody's business what we do with them.

I agree it is a question of people choosing whether they want screw up their lives (and their family) by doing hard drugs, what I disagree with is working to pay the social security bills and NHS bills of cokeheads who decide not to work and contribute to society.

Yes, legalise, regulate and control it! It would put the dealers out of business, cut crime, reduce prison overcrowding cut deaths from overdoses and it would be possible to offer addicts help rather than penalise them. Many a person has had their career prospects ruined by minor convictions It's been done successfully in some other countries with great success

Don’t disagree with the theory but which countries have legalised cocaine and heroin successfully?

https://www.theguardian.com/news/2017/dec/05/portugals-radical-drugs-policy-is-w "It is important to note that Portugal stabilised its opioid crisis, but it didn’t make it disappear. While drug-related death, incarceration and infection rates plummeted, the country still had to deal with the health complications of long-term problematic drug use. Diseases including hepatitis C, cirrhosis and liver cancer are a burden on a health system that is still struggling to recover from recession and cutbacks. In this way, Portugal’s story serves as a warning of challenges yet to come"

It won’t necessarily mean that the drug problem will go away Yes you may get rid of a lot of drug dealers But what does that do Bring the price of drugs down, so addicts can buy more The problem is much more complicated than to legalise, regulate and control drugs I can never understand why anyone would ever take drugs in the first place and that include smoking It’s beyond belief that some people are that stupid. That by taking something, in where they have no clue where it came from and what the drug was. That it could do them some serious harm or even kill you I’m not a religious person as such But believe that if God wanted you to smoke. He would put a chimney on top of your head With something similar if you took drugs

Drugs won't go away it's always been here, but millions worldwide take recreational drugs and alcohol without any problems whatsoever. Saying ppl shouldn't take drugs is naive and accomplishes nothing as the futile war on drugs has shown. If it's controlled and regulated however the quality can be improved. It's the impurities that heroin is cut with that does the damage not the drug itself. Collapsed veins, ulcers bad circulation all caused by the cutting agents. Overdoses also occur by users injecting unknown strengths of the drug into their system,They could be taking 40% heroin on a regular basis, next time the dealer messes up and makes it 55%, that's what causes overdoes not the user taking more and more

Portugal, Switzerland, and Vancouver in Canada. There was even a pilot scheme in liverpool during the 80s which was very successful until the funding was removed. Certain states in the US are decriminialisng marijuana, it will be interesting to see what happens, certainly their prisons won't be so full

“Drugs won’t go away, it’s always been here” In your lifetime maybe But where I live. I can say there was no drugs being used in the late sixties early seventies What you are doing is making excuses for weak minded people What good are people to a country if they are high on drugs No use whatsoever Just a burden for others

Opium was freely available in the shops of london during the 20s, heroin likewise in the USA. doctors used to give addicts in the US their regular fix of heroin , and these ppl would then go about their jobs, family life etc. Then came the criminalisation of drugs, all that stopped and we saw the rise of illegal dealers and street crime, so, yes drugs have always been here. The same happened with prohibition in the USA, alcohol was pushed underground, the quality dropped and drinkers turned to strong liqueur rather than beer as there was less quantities to smuggle and bigger profits.Make anything illegal and the demand doesn't go way. The war on drugs is essentially prohibition

I don't know where you lived, but where i did, drugs were rampant in the late 60s and early 70s, admittedly not as bad as it is today but it was there.
