Just make the throw in "informal". No rules about feet on the ground, ball in hand etc. If you want to hurl it one handed or just drop it at another players feet.
Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

This is how its done in smaller formats of the game
I've played 5 a'sides where a kick in is used as the rule was to award a free kick if the ball went above head height. It nealry always ended as a short pass and got mashed in the way a dropped ball used to. Leave it as it is. I would make it an offence for players on the team not 1) taking the throw to touch the ball after the linesman has flagged 2) taking a free kick to touch the ball after the ref has indicated the free kick. 3) taking a free kick to touch the ball, slow down the taking of the free kick or failing to retreat 10 yards after the ref has indicated the free kick.
Honestly, I don't have an issue with throw-ins as they are. The problem is when some teams (mentioning no names) take ages to wipe the ball, have a run up, etc. Some of the throws in Cardiff's match on Sky last week took 30-40+ seconds. They aren't the only culprits.
What needs to be done is referees need to crack down on this and treat it as time wasting. If a player went to take a throw and just stood there with the ball in his hands for half a minute, there would be cards handed out - for sure. Refs need to start carding them in the same way.

Watched the Cardiff match Friday and it struck me how lethargic they looked and how much time they took to restart play. Dare I say they look unfit as a group.

Went to a U11 tournament in Holland earlier this year, and players were allowed to dribble the ball in, including from Corners.
I believe kick ins were experimented with many years ago in Japan/china? Quickly abandoned as it was terrible with teams launching long balls into the box.
