Excellent interview by John McDonnell on the Marr show 10:04 - Dec 15 with 4768 viewsladyjack

I have always liked McDonnell politically but all the same he gave a top class interview to Marr, the main thing that came out of it was that the media done a number on Corbyn.

Will the powers that be ever allow a left wing Labour Government ?, the answer seems to be that they will not.

‘Twas always this which is why Labour need to revert back to the middle ground if they want to win an election. I have never met Corbyn, he may be a decent, selfless, caring guy and the opposite of pretty much all the other politicians we have, but he is deeply unpopular with the electorate who associate him with extremism etc.
The next leader needs to be someone like Starmer, anything else and it’s curtains for Labour.

That's fair comment majorraglan, but the people that own and run the media have too much power and they will not allow a left of centre Labour party to win a General Election so we only end up with centre at best or right wing Governments and that is not right or fair.

He’s not selfless or he’d have stepped aside when it was obvious he was the problem (and by god he was). The worst approval rating ever was a clue.

He is, in fact, one of the most selfish tw*ts ever to infest a once relevant party, along with the Lansmans and McLusky’s, and yes the Blairs, Mandelsons and those turds too.

As they won’t pick anyone sensible they should just pick someone that will really go for Johnson with full heart on sleeve attack. He’ll hate that as he likes to be adored by everyone, being a narcissistic sociopath. Phillips is that person for me. No polite lenses or old boys club there.

Corbyn is now so strongly associated with the hateful intolerant left and mob mentality..Kamikaze own-goal vote sabotage because working class people have gone out and given a two fingered salute to it. Anti hearts and minds calling working class voters racist, far-right, Nazi, thick, uneducated, gammon etc.

Labours manifesto was amazing and all costed. If not all of it would have worked at least some of it would. The voters have missed an opportunity for change, instead opting for more of the same as we have had for the last decade.

The absolute state of ‘em.

That girl on there with the drawn Sloane Square vowels, the one that wants to be a “Doktaaar,” it’s very good of her to see herself as the saviour of working folk. If I could get hold of a time machine and stand John Wheatley next to her only their mothers would be able to tell them apart.

An idea isn't responsible for those who believe in it.

I don't think either manifesto was very plausible

But it's lying Boris who will have to carry out his

Where will the money come from for it

They will need an excuse, they can't blame the EU, the unions etc etc

They must be hoping for a big stock market crash to blame it on

Many in attendance pronouncing "house parties" with a more affluent postcode twang i.e. "hice spotties".

It's surreal i.e. virtue-signalling concern for the downtrodden working class whilst showing complete and utter contempt for the very downtrodden working class they claim they are fighting on behalf of.

The contradiction and hypocrisy is hilarious, champagne-Marxist snobs, they really are.

Yes it was ideal to recreate the 25% general interest rates and 12.5% mortgage rates of the previous give away labour governments.
Jim Callaghan was the man who turned the country around, the last great statesman for labour.

They're planning to do wat they allways end up having to do - borrow. Which is fine if the ecnomy's growing strongly. Not sure how they'll sqaure that with Brexit though.

If you could go back in time and be the proverbial fly on the wall it’s a safe bet dotty old Sid and Beatrice’s salon circle would have been very similar, sat there pontificating about docker’s working conditions over pink gins and canapés.

If you were referring to the high interest rates of the mid 70s, it was due to high oil prices and not Labour policies.

True that it was kicked off by the Oil crisis, but Wages were out of control, jumping 30% between 74 & 75 and the government was protecting jobs until Callaghan brought in Austerity to get control of raging inflation.
The Unions did for him just he got the country right, which Thatcher inherited.
When the same happened in the 80s "get on your bike" Thatcher just let the jobs go, she cared little for the working people.

But that manifesto would have brought either massive inflation or a massive increase public debt.

Oil prices rose because OPEC wanted to teach the west a lesson after it's support for Israel during the war of 73. Supply was restricted, therefore prices went up.More money was required to buy the oil therefore inflation rose.Thatcher s govt put up interest rates to control the inflation , but blamed it on overspending on the welfare state.Eventually a high ranking US official - i forget his name , put pressure on OPEC and supply increased and prices came down.Thatcher blamed it all on the welfare state and took credit for bringing inflation down, but it was not that at all. That was the start of the neoliberalism of Thatcher and the myth that Labour always overspends on welfare , etc.

The media have been treating Jeremy as the second comming ever since he was elected labour leader. They only ever showed him with his adoring fans.
It is only since labour published their manifesto and Corbyn could not make his mind up if he was for remain or leave that he rightly came under scrutiny.

He betrayed labour voters and they voted against him. His failure, his fault no one else.
