| George Byers falls out with Jackett, not selected on 13:28 - Mar 11 with 1369 views | ReslovenSwan1 | Byers was not involved in the 18 man squad and left the ground. Any Swansea player actually playing week in and week out must be asumed to be doing well. Brandon Cooper at Newport and Garrick at Swindon. League 1 one league below Swasnea is harder to impress in. Some of these players are just cheap options to park on the bench to make up the numbers. | |

| George Byers falls out with Jackett, not selected on 14:36 - Mar 11 with 1310 views | KeithHaynes | Portsmouth boss Kenny Jackett has confirmed that midfielder George Byers did leave the ground early prior to the 2-0 defeat to Sunderland. Byers was at Fratton Park on Tuesday night, but HampshireLive revealed that Byers was seen heading towards the players’ exit prior to the team news being announced. And after not being selected, he was not spotted watching the game with the rest of his Blues teammates that were not involved. Jackett has confirmed that Byers did leave early and that while players not selected must report to the stadium, they do not have to stay at the ground for the game if they are not picked. Byers, whose omission from the squad was the first time he had not made at least the bench since arriving on loan from Swansea City in January, could even return to the starting line-up for Saturday’s Papa John’s Trophy Final against Salford City at Wembley Stadium due to Andy Cannon’s hamstring injury. | |

IMO he needed to 1. pass the ball forward once in a while 2. improve the defensive side of his game 3. get fitter - he seemed to let opposing players run past him, and struggled to get up and down

Cooper liked him but wanted him to beef up and do more of the "non negiociable load" (NNL). He seemed to think he was making progress in this department before getting injured. He featured 25 times for Coope . He is capable of a Hollywood goal from distance. Still only 24 yers old and another of the Anglo Acadmeny players. when he returns he will be under threat from Dan Williams and Ollie Cooper 21 year old snapping at his heals. He has to deliver. I see no reason to write him off. [Post edited 12 Mar 2021 12:27]

He was a standout player in the u23s sides that included Rodon, McBurnie, James etc. Potter got great mileage out of him as a deeper midfielder during the period we were playing our best football. I thought he'd be one to step up and flourish but never got the proper run of games as a goalscoring midfielder allowed to go support the striker, which was his game in the u23s. His goals record at that level was about as good as Cullen's, Michu-like from midfield. Assists and set pieces as well. The obsession with turning him into a gritty midfield battler baffles me to be honest, we had more natural candidates for that hanging around. Never been quite sure about his attitude (London boy with a Rangers obsession def. a bit odd) but the boy can play. Lower leagues is no place for footballers. If we're not interested in possession and with all his partners in crime moved on to greater things you have to wonder what's next for him.

I get the impression some will defend any players even the most incompetent just becaue he wears the shirt. If players are not being criticised then something is wrong as it is when all fans think the same.

There's criticism and then there's criticism. The constant barrage of abuse of selected targets is obscene at times.

Groo. Obscene the wrong adjective as is abuse. It is no more than one would here in a pub prior to the game What is obscene are club employees not pulling their weight especially those with whom we entrust our dreams on the pitch. Anyway, spring must be acoming now to Alberta surely.

Mate, get with the programme. If a poster who is a target likes a player and commends them that player is open to abuse. If a player isn’t liked by one of the chosen that player is open to abuse. If you disagree with one of the chosen you are open to abuse. In the spirit of openness I regularly criticise Grimes but also have made him mom four times this season. I always criticise Cooper because he is, in my opinion, lucky not good.

Being capable of a Hollywood goal now and then isn't much of a thing. I saw some real crackers in local league football and scored a couple myself. If a bog standard local league full back can score from 25 yards and more a pro should be capable. It what he does for a full 90 that counts and Byers never did enough, for me anyway. I never met Jackett but I know one ex Swan who was really quite nasty about him!

Being lightweight is something that can be worked on at 24 years old. Swansea have never been a team based on physical characteristics. The emphasis is on skill and speed.
