| Netherlands on 22:09 - Jul 9 with 1984 views | max936 | He'll probably leave it to late again and the Hospitals will start getting inundated with covid patients, you can see it happening. Its bordering on reckless for him to be opening everything up on the 19th, needs to give it maybe a month 6weeks longer, not gonna make much difference after all this time, imo Massive attendances at Wimbledon and Wembley, is gonna have consequences, you just know it, he's to thick to learn though, he and his own won't suffer though, that's for sure. | |

| Netherlands on 22:24 - Jul 9 with 1965 views | Dr_Winston | Wembley and Wimbledon were both test events. People attending either had to be vaccinated or provide negative testing beforehand. There may well be some spread, but probably no more than the VE/BLM/Other gatherings in 2020. The hospitalisation figures are all that matters. 100,000 can test positive, but if the serious cases are manageable then there's no problem. | |

Type #1 - Those who either know someone who has died "of" Covid or are generally of the Howard Hughes persuasion anyway. Death lies around every corner and only total isolation for five or ten years until nobody dies of anything, ever, will do. Quite often they'll rail against the "Authoritarian" Government whilst complaining about how the same Govt isn't locking anyone down and not quite understanding the contradiction. Type #2 - The anti-vaxx loonies. Believe everything they see on Youtube and consider themselves experts on virology, epidemiology and public health when truth is most of them can probably only just about manage to tie their own shoelaces without adult supervision or some blogger explaining how shoelaces are a Bilderberg scam. Also generally big fans of 9/11 conspiracies & Moon landing conspiracies. Type #3 - Everyone else. Aware that there's a virus circulating that's a bit more dangerous than flu and worth taking precautions over, but understanding that unless you're old or unfortunate enough to suffer from a serious medical condition chances are you're more likely to win the lottery or die in a plane crash than be more than mildly inconvenienced by Covid. Happy to be vaccinated, but mostly just wishing that the whole thing was over so #1 & #2 will shut the hell up and that they can go to the pub without having to bother with table service. I'm in and out of peoples houses Monday to Friday, got a mask on and its excruciating, wearing one and having to do physical work, but what can you do, so the less risk the better, it won't be forever, if people are sensible we could be out of this by September the latest, but Boris insistence on the crash bang wallop approach , could turn round and bite him on his fat arse, some like myself have family members to protect. I've been to beer gardens, but not sat in a pub so far, had to use toilet of course, but being as careful as possible. I was ill last weekend, but luckily it was just a sore throat and a feeling of being unwell, used a lateral flow test which was clear thankfully, [Post edited 9 Jul 2021 23:30]

We're going to have to get on with it eventually. If we can't get on with it in midsummer when three quarters of adults have been vaccinated, when can we?

100% agree, but with cases of this new variant rising in its 1000's across the country, can't we just hang fire until cases start to fall and stabilise, then crack on, think there's a decent argument from both sides of the coin, I don't know which one is the best way forward, but I just think we should hold out, a tad longer before going into full tally ho mode. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/hea [Post edited 9 Jul 2021 23:48]

There's always going to be a new variant, or other such excuse to delay reopening. We're basically at the point of pulling a plaster off. We can do it slowly and painfully, or yank it and get it over and done with.

If you yank a plaster off too early there’s a chance of the cut getting infected. Not that Boris, Javid or Rishi care, they’ve got mates in high places losing a small percentage of their millions. Boris dropped a bollock again to let this Delta variant in, that’s why he’s playing it down and opening up.

No easy answer. Big risk of Delta v summer and long school holidays Ideally we would get to 80% fully vaccinated to open, but that’s at least a month away. Wait till then and schools are going back. Are we in a good place or are these the same grave errors? No one really knows, But let’s hope it is a good result

That may be right but it could depend on whether a lot of new cases trigger a new variant and how bad that is? I'm all for opening back up, getting some normality back but we still have to use common sense. Sajid javid said there could be 100k new case per day so I think it would be better to do a staged re-opening but still tell people to wear masks in shops. The big problem was always going to be pubs and clubs, once beer is involved the rules get forgotten. We don't ye know if there's been any kind of surge in cases after the two semi finals and we have the final, lets hope for the best I guess. Drakeford is a ditherer but in a few weeks we may be grateful for that. It may make up for his dithering in the beginning.

The UK isn't the only place with Covid infections. A new variant could pop up in Rio just as easily as Rotherham. Do we worry about 50,000 a day in the UK when there's another million worldwide that we have no control over?

Type#3, those brainwashed in to thinking that the only answer is vaccination. Ask yourself the question, how with populations many times larger than the UK that Mexico and India (the origin of the Delta variant) are doing better than we are with a third of the percentage vaccinated? Let me know when you figure it out.

That will never happen. All adults have been offered their vaccination but only 86.8% have taken up the offer. Possibly another 2 to 3% have an appointment shortly but the other 10% include NHS workers, care home workers and antivaxers who think they are safer being unvaccinated. The 86.8% of adults who have had their first vaccine are no longer prepared to spend their lives in lockdown because of the selfish 10%. There is also a reluctance in getting under 30s to book their appointment hence we are only vaccinating 250,000 per day compared to 500,000 a few weeks ago.

Yes but wasn;t that the big mistake in the beginning, not stopping international travel, Bojo not putting India on the red list when he should and that variant being here before we closed them down? That's why I think a slower, phased opening should be done, not the crash, bang, wallop approach. Maybe wait to see what happens with the football. Part of the problem, to me anyway, is that some people under react but other people go potty. The governments either did nothing or went too far. Bojo does nothing at all or goes gung ho, Drakeford just dithersand looks to be different to Westminster, just because. During a global pandemic we are being run by Bill and Ben.
