I’m uncertain the response that rainbows are banned is good enough.

And it needs to be called out. These people are hosting a World Cup, they deserve to be scrutinised and called out.

If I had paid a couple of grand to go to Doha I’d certainly wouldn’t have tried to get into the ground with a rainbow bucket hat. Whether you like it or not it’s been published enough.
| Wales fans refused entry in to the ground tonight on 22:00 - Nov 21 with 1138 views | ReslovenSwan1 | Two Welsh fans had their flag taken off them at an international match in 2012. It said "No Team GB" and was considered to be a political comment. The establishment will have its way on whatever subject it likes. | |

They've already been scrutinised when they they won the race to hold the world cup (albeit by the most corrupt sporting organisation in the world) If the countries (players) that are moaning about not being allowed to wear rainbow hats and one love armbands, refused to take part in the first place, because of Qatar's human rights, this world cup wouldn't be in Qatar, stable door after the horse has bolted.

You’re right of course, but we’re there now, a lot of the players were kids when Q were chosen, everyone there needs to calling these people out

Not a comment on you personally, John, but it does tickle me when the supposedly anti-colonialist Left look at extra-European societies and demand the locals think and act in synch with Bloomsbury.

Comment away, call me a tosser, never a problem. Of course if you visit on holiday, you should respect the local customs. Difference being they’re hosting a World Cup. They’re there to be looked at. I think they’re regretting hosting it

Well if qatar host a worldwide competition when people from different ethnicities and sexual orientations visit then they should prepare themselves, fvck all to do with being an anti colonial leftist. Agree with that. If feelings were so strong then the European teams should have refused to play and organise a separate tournament….similar to the impending Super Cup breakaway competition. However money talks….big time. I spent a while in the Middle East and I can tell you all now they have taken a big step to agree to what we take for granted when it comes to our values. To put it into perspective how would we feel if a Muslim country came to a tournament in the West and demanded we adhere to their life values and beliefs?

I didn’t insult you at all, did I? My comment was on the false-Utopianism of Universal Values. It’s a will-o-the-wisp. It reminds me of a story I’ve told on here before that made me laugh out loud: my eldest when she was about six-or-so said to me “do you know there are some people who don’t believe in Jesus?” “Yes, love,” I said. She, with an angry face, came back with “can’t we make them?”

No, you didn’t in any way whatsoever. You said ‘not a comment on you personally’ so I was saying ‘don’t worry if you were, say what you want’

Not a tournament pe say but we do have Muslim religious police in this country , trying to impose their beliefs on non Muslims

Where exactly? | | | |
| Wales fans refused entry in to the ground tonight on 22:57 - Nov 21 with 964 views | ReslovenSwan1 | Google:- Qatar is a Muslim-majority country with Islam as the state religion. Salafi version of Islam is the state sponsored brand of Sunni Islam in the country, making Qatar one of the two Salafi states in the Muslim world, along with Saudi Arabia. Qatar is in effect a giant mosque. If you enter it you have to obey the basic rules. FIFA due to economic issues chose Qatar democratically. If you visit Mosque or even a catholic church you are expected not to rock the boat or make political gestures. Frivolous head wear for example. The Qatari believe Westerners can have a good time without drinking at matches or wearing political gestures that go against their particular religion. If you want to be openly gay it is not the place for you. The hijab is banned in France on the other hand so perhaps France is not for Strict Muslims or else they can adapt their behaviour to the French rules and wear western cloths. Arabs often do this being seen in suits. There is little or no excuse however of the shocking treatment of migrant workers . This is probably un Islamic as it purports to be a religion of piousness and decency. Of course if all the workers were non Muslim this would be bad treatment of heathens and non believers by the pious Salafists. However many of the workers were Pakistani and Bangladeshi. It could be that these were not Sunni Wahabi and Salafi and therefore still regarded as lower class. I will have to do further research. The Well healed Gulf Arabs are regarded as fake Muslims by some less wealthy Turks for example who are pious at home but partying hedonists in Soho. | |

France has strict laws for full face covering at least. France is at the World cup and could expect any restrictions to be reciprocal. UK is very relaxed about these things. The five pillars of Islam are. Muslim creed, prayer, charity to the poor, fasting in the month of Ramadan, and the pilgrimage to Mecca for those who are able. The poor treatment of the grafters might not have been observed while they were blowing $220 billion on lavish facilities. They might be taken aback by the humble heathens being concerned about the fate of their Muslim bother construction workers. [Post edited 21 Nov 2022 23:12]

I find it strange we have and have had demonstrations in the UK demanding the right for Muslim women to have the right to wear a hijab and yet we have also had demonstrations demanding the right for women in the Middle East not to have to wear a hijab. I feel the Iranian team today were far more intelligent…and heroic….in their message to the world regarding human rights than any wearing of a coloured hat or armband. How many Iranians will live for the next few years after that compared to hat wearing heroes?
