There's a lot out there that keep their work shirts going for more than 2 shifts. Some very poor basic hygiene out there. Trains seem to attract the unclean in droves!

I assume not - how could they stand it?
Although the fact that some try to cover it up with excessive cologne or perfume or by spraying half a can of Lynx over themselves suggests they realise they're taking a short cut.
I think some of it is people wearing dirty clothes mind. How on earth can anyone wear a shirt more than once if they've had it on for 10 hours to go to work?

Spray some lynx over it and it’s good for three days at least. I think we may have met on the Circle Line without realising it...

I sent someone home from work once in the days when you could. I’d planned this delicate sensitive caring speech to tell them they honked, caught the smell when I got within ten feet and shouted “you stink, go home”. He found another job thank God and I escaped a payoff or a tribunal.

I’ve had to have the “you smell, have a wash” conversation with someone as well. Infancy I was a bit more tactful than you.
