I didn't know Father Christmas could speak Welsh. Does he also speak all the other languages of the countries that believe and do they complain about such matters if he doesn't?

I’d imagine that if he’s representing in Germany he would speak German

Correct, quite a legitimate complaint.

But if he was speaking in Welsh, in Wales, the majority wouldn't have a clue what he was saying and it would quite possibly ruin Christmas.

Isn’t the point that he should have been able to speak both, thus allowing customers to choose the language in which their little darlings converse with Santa so that no one’s Christmas is ruined?

Well yes, but then there's a glut of seasonal Santa's on the unemployment statistics. You can't have it both ways.

I think the complaint is because it was at a Cadw site, the same Cadw that "help sustain the distinctive character of Wales". The Cadw that in translation means to keep/protect.

I always thought the Welsh speakers believed in Siôn Corn. So maybe they should have hired "Siôn Corn" if they wanted Welsh

Santa has the magical ability to converse in the language of any country he visits, I thought everyone knew that.

This Santa that couldn't speak Welsh when in Wales must be a fake, it's f*cking obvious mun.

I think it's genuinely reasonable to expect a Cadw site to hire someone who speaks both.

Anywhere else. Whatever.

I was Santa again for Hendy RFC this year and I am not fluent in Welsh. All these kids come in with their parents talking Welsh to each other, I say " Have you been a good boy/girl?" in English and they lapped it up.
Unfortunately, no fragrant yummy, mummies sat on my lap this time.
Must have been shite me.
I would say a bilingual Santa would far more likely to be found in North or West Wales than down near Castell Coch.

That's why I said it's only different because it's a Cadw site.

Agree Lis ....

Would never be such a big deal otherwise ......dying language is Welsh and that is coming from a father who has two children brought up in a Welsh speaking school due to it being my ex-wife’s first language.

Initially, the Welsh speaking schools enjoyed smaller class numbers etc and I was satisfied with my sons’ progression but now there isn’t that much difference really.....
