Players out on loan Grimes, Fulton, McBurnie, Montero, Borja, Amat — were we covering some of the wages?
So the question is, will we have covered the £50m loss of income by the sale of 3 players and the wages saved?

No,we need to offload Bony and Andre wages.
We can still sell some unwanted players as well like Borja,there are also those who want to leave like Fernandez and Amat as well..that alone is worth 10-12 m in fees.
We can sell players for 50-60 imo..which is we use half of that on bringing 4 players with more limited wages,the club will probably even turn a profit. [Post edited 16 May 2018 9:47]

What was our wages/income ratio last season? 85/90%? For a business with an income of C£100m which is dropping off to £30m with parachute payments, that's an awful lot of wages needed off the books. Much of that would be covered with player sales I would imagine. £60m reduction maybe?

our income will go down from 127 m to around 70 m
..and with wage cuts and relegation clauses our wage bill will be cut about 40%..our expenses will be around 80-90 m
we'll sell players for about 50 m let's say..we might use 25-30 m to build the squad.
income+sale surplus=90 m
we'll break even like that..or make a small profit. | |

So pointless signing on players for £5m/£10m, and giving them 3/4 year deals, as we won't be able to afford it. Need to be looking at free transfers and loans.

Agree we'll target free or loans for new players or maybe some low cost experienced players.
Don't expect any big signings, and with so many underperforming players on our books, look to get some to agree to 6 months in Championship to recover fitness / form before sale in inflated Jan window. I think most of those already abroad - Amat, Mesa, Montero, Baston - won't return and maybe raise £15m or so. Add to this Fabs, Fernandez, Ki plus English qualified like Naughton, Carrol and Clucas maybe another £25m of the market is as inflated as last year. With retirees and loanees going back that's still 14-15 players out, £40m or so in (albiet phased!) and critically another £25m or so off the payroll.
What does that leave us with? News Mawson unlikely to be fit at start of season rules out a big money exit. Fitness form issues with Bony, Fer and Ayew, so may start season with this lot, keep likes of Nord, VDH, Bartley and Ollson, that are not worth much but may do OK in Chamionship - pull back some loanees (Ollie/Fulton) and mix with a few u23 like Roberts/James.
Yanks may feel keep fans if we keep, then flog in inflated Jan window if they recover form/fitness. 6 months wont make huge difference in cash-flow the way transfers are spread over years these days. |  | | |
