Car Peugeot 107 Experts? 18:50 - Sep 21 with 2858 viewsjack_lord

Son's car was being driven and engine cut out. Car won't start. It doesn't turn over but does seem to have power and horn works.
I'm thinking it can't be starter motor as car was being driven when cut out.
Any ideas?

Battery/alternator

Thanks, would engine cut out when driving when electrics, otherwise seem to be fine?
It had been odd starting with no response and then firing up and turning over no problem.

I'm no expert but have learnt a lot and maybe it's the fuel pump not working that makes it cut out.
I'm sure many posters on here can point you to a good mechanic.

Any dashboard lights? They might indicate issues with feed to firing mechanism.

Any horrible sounds when you turn it over? I hope you haven’t lost a timing belt. You may even be able to see the belts for both timing and alternator; are they intact?

All the dashboards seem to be on.
When the key is put in the ignition position, there is nothing. All very bizarre as the car started perfectly three times today and on the third journey the engine cut out about half a mile from the house and then nothing.
I was told that when the car turned the corner there was a whirring noise and then the engine cut out.

Hmm, hard to tell.

Putting key in ignition and nothing happens implies electrical.

Whirring noise when last driven implies mechanical.

If you can I would check the integrity of the belts. Has a snapped belt mangled your engine to the point where it can’t turn over.

Possibly. My mechanic mate has said to drop the key off at his garage and he will go and get it at some point. Problem is, obviously, the car is needed now as it is used every day as wife is also using it until she gets her new car.
