Another waste of public funds like PM Johnson's garden bridge across the Thames and the water canon he bought and had to be sold off at a huge loss.

Johnson is not fit to tie shoelaces.

Swansea Indepenent Poster Of The Year 2021. Dr P / Mart66 / Roathie / Parlay / E20/ Duffle was 2nd, but he is deluded and thinks in his little twisted brain that he won. Poor sod. We let him win this year, as he has cried for a whole year. His 14 usernames, bless his cotton socks.

Actually all the land bought with the money spent has actually got housing on it. Just not affordable housing.

Under the conservative an average of 26000 council and housing associations homes have been built each year.

Under labour the average was 19000 per year.

The policy was about starter homes, not council housing or housing association houses. Completely different thing.

The only thing that matters is building more house than labour. It does not matter what you call them.

Jesus H Christ.

What is the point in building housing that no one can afford? The number of empty properties in the UK is staggering. Young people are finding it near impossible to get on the housing ladder, banks won't take the risk yet these same young people can rent a house paying a greedy landlord way above what they would pay for a mortgage each month.

That is one of labours pledges - to go after the greedy landlords, perhaps then we can get young people on the ladder and into these empty houses.

Thank you, goodnight and bollocks

To quote the article it was a specific "Conservative election manifesto pledge, by then-PM David Cameron, to help more young people on to the housing ladder". So in that regard it's failed.

You're right that numbers are also important. It can be politicised with the Tories saying they're building at record levels for their term, or by Labour saying that since 2010 building has been well below peak levels seen under Labour. Both are true. I'm not sure it's particularly helpful though - bottom line is that there still aren't enough affordable homes especially for those on the bottom of the ladder. And it's far more complex than simply a new builds issue.

it's not that landlords are greedy, there's not a lot of profit in renting houses, after taxes, insurance wear and tear etc, it's that youngsters are earning poor money, temporary or zero hour contracts. The housing market isn't the problem, the job market is.

Great job missing the point. I'm not that many years removed from buying my first house, so the distinction is important to me.

Labour didn't do a good enough job last time they were in power and were voted out. Now the Tories haven't done a good enough job and should be voted out. Whoever gets in probably won't do a good enough job and will also be voted out. Same as it ever was.

Voting such an incompetent Tory government back into power would be nuts.

You know, Hobbes, some days even my lucky rocket ship underpants don't help.
