I'm watching Autumnwatch with Chris Packham and...well this is quite amazing...and funny in it's own way.
When a creature starts eating a plant the plant tries to defend itself by releasing chemicals that make it taste bad (Jasmonic acid) those chemicals (green leaf volatiles) are interpreted by other animals who go looking for the creatures eating the plants. The chemicals are also read by nearby plants who give off the same chemicals as a warning.
So in short, plants get attacked, they try to defend themselves and warn other plants. Surely this means plants are intelligent life and so eating them is a form of cruelty?
Any vegans on here care to comment?
Of course the down side is we cannot eat anything and will all starve to death very soon. It'll be a cure for covid anyway!
I should also add the experts were saying we should all grow stuff because getting our hands in the earth releases a chemical like dopamine which stimulates happiness. It's the earths natural anti depressant.
Gardening really is good for us. Therefore I shall carry on eating animal and plant but I shall also carry on making a gardening effort.

"In a free society, the State is the servant of the people—not the master."
