Is Potter top drawer.? 22:06 - Feb 3 with 5352 viewsReslovenSwan1

Winning at Anfield with Dan Burn at wing back. He must have something about him. He did well with Swansea with John, Celina, McKay with Courtney Baker Richardson leading the attack and Nordfildt in goal. Remarkable. All these players failed the non negotiables except CBR who was just too blunt an instrument for Coops. He took the 'Non Negs' too far at the Den on his debut which always led me to look favourably on the lad.

He made his comeback for Barnet last week up agaisnt Joe Lewis for Torquay. I always keep an eye out for the man as he is a proper battler and very strong. i hope he does well.

A very good astute coach with a clear identity as to how the team play. Did well for us to help us consolidate whilst we regrouped.

Pleased to see his team pick up some good wins recently as they’ve played well in most games.

Tom Carroll's first and best game in a Swansea shirt. This actually proves your point.

We have a Welsh one doing a better job than he did for us.

Couldn't defend properly though stuck with the worse keeper I have ever seen play for us.

Also had Dan James Joe Rodon and Ollie Mcburnie.

Nearly 50 million quid worth of talent there and still got nowhere near what Cooper has achieved pretty football or not.

Our defensive record from open play was as good or better than Cooper's (only Boro and Sheff Utd conceded fewer that season) it was just conceding from set pieces that massively let us down, worst in the division by a margin. We kept the ball well and were never caught out on counters. We'd concede one shot in a half and Nordfeldt would let it past him.

Dan James didn't hit consistent form until this time of year after the Leeds drama. Joe missed half the season with a broken foot, Grimes played centre half last time we played City in the cup. Revisionists want to pretend we had a team of underachieving superstars when the same people were claiming Potter was getting 110% out of a threadbare squad at the time.

Yes I had no gripe with Potter did well with what he had.

But he gets over hyped on here by a few and as for Cooper there are plenty waiting for him to slip up and only to happy to stick the boot in at every opportunity.

Potter has done ok at Brighton but let's be honest both last season and this the PL has been low on quality with the bottom 3 sides.

Potter can be grateful for that.

Would be interesting to see him in with a shout once Mourinho gets the boot at Spurs. Potter is a top 6 manager.

He will be a atleast a top 10 premier league manager imo.

As Jasper touched on earlier though, big time Achilles heel with the set piece defending, surely needs to bring on a specialist coach, similar to what Cooper did with Margetson.

PS - What he did with us though is hard to forgive, chopping and changing formations, personnel in different positions, which I had no doubt was all part of the big picture as he was using his first season as consolidation ready for what he would have thought be a promotion charge second. Though he left at first opportunity, by doing that he also wasted a great chance on getting back up first attempt.

Interesting discussion. A bit of a side note, but it is fascinating to see how many of our managers have done well when they have left us.

Team of youngsters ?

Not really. Van Der Hoorn, Olssen, Dyer, Routledge, Fer, Narsingh. There were many players who’d been around the block a few times. Not that it matters. Potter did well for us.

Its amazing how a couple of results turn a (ex Swans) manager into something special.

Brighton's record in 2020 was awful only slightly better than Sheff Utd

https://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league-table-2020-covid-23242

Sheff Utd, West Brom & to a lesser extent Fulham are awful, he will be found out in the near future.

If we're going to stay obsessed with former managers Id rather discuss the gorgeous Paulo Sousa.

Far more beautiful and a better speaker too;far more charismatic than dull plain Potter.

Ecxept none of players the club spent close on £6m on get a mention as being an influence either as youngsters or experienced palyer, in declining order of uselessness.

Celina
McKay
John
Asoro.
