It’s good that things are opening back up, but this shows why it makes sense to have a cautious approach to opening up society and especially things like pubs.

It will be two weeks before pubs open. Meanwhile the residents just inside are crossing into England to spend their money in pubs and to help local English economies.
Make no sense at all .

Unless hospital cases rise significantly as a result it's not a big concern.

Infections will increase as a natural result of the lifting of restrictions. There's no way around that and it's pointless getting worked up about it for now. What matters is that the vaccine does its job and protects the majority from serious illness, and that seems to be the case so far. There doesn't seem to be much indication that any of the major vaccines in play at the moment are less effective against most identified variants either.

Eventually we're going to have to get to the point where an acceptable level of Covid infection and death is reached. It's never going away completely.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

Pubs have their own issues as you always will where alcohol is concerned. One thing I will say is that the pubs and restaurants I visited prior to the last lockdown seemed very covid safe. Masks in place going in and out, excellent social distancing and very thorough sanitising. There were others not so good that I avoided. With shops there seems to be a lot of touching the product even if you don't buy. Remember after the first lockdown, there was a member of staff at the door ensuring you sanitised your hands on entering, not the case now. Plus it seems to be a bit of a free for all in some shops without social distancing and no one way in place and if there is its being ignored. Yes there are issues with hospitality as there are with shops, just don't take a big stick to pubs if they are run properly.

I walked past a bar on Beauj day last year, it was like the wild west in there and the council had to close it... you can't trust people when alcohol is involved.

And no, I've not got my new Primark t-shirt on today

In a way I agree but there are many licenced premises where that would never happen and they have to be tared with the same brush. Any nonsense issue a warning then shut them down for 3 months if it happens again. We all know restaurants and pubs locally where there would be no issues and licencee and customers stick to the guidelines, don't hold them back.

I spent Sunday night in the Holiday Inn Ellesmere Port ,which got me thinking about the poor souls who were stuck on cruise ships at the start of this last year, the thought of spending weeks on end stuck in your cabin having meals sent to the room, aghhh I'd have jumped overboard after a week . One preheated extremely dry english breakfast yesterday was enough to make me consider veganism .

I agree.

I went to the Brunswick, Westbourne and No sign bar in the early Autumn and they were definitely operating safely. To the point of being oppressive.

I took my old man to the local club and it was a shambles.

Dick Winters’ boxers. Made in Scotland.

I can’t vouch for the employees pension scheme but I can confirm they come with a Union Flag on the packaging.

That means more lockdown/restrictions which many wont pay any attention too anyway.

Jesus,we can't even agree on passports that would prove people were safe to return to an arena/stadium

Most people local to me abandoned the covid rules ages ago, they buy on line and drink in each others houses.

Others have been drinking takeaway beer down in Mumbles, with social distancing out the window

Any new lockdown will have very little affect on them, but it will affect those that adhered to the rules.

The J shed area down in SA1 has been a free for all for weeks now , not pleasant viewing for those of sensitive nature .
