| Ashley Williams 23:22 - Oct 13 with 1907 views | builthjack | Is in a bit of bother. He apparently got into an argument at his sons under 12 match. He had the opposition coach in a headlock and the game had to be abandoned. Sounds naughty. [Post edited 13 Oct 2022 23:23]

Dare i say it but i coach my daughters u15's team and it's s much better, both sets of parents and coaches are supportive of both teams and it's more about enjoyment and improving technically than a win at all costs mentality

I've become involved with my sons U14's this season and so far it's been OK, I reffed the first match, I had a few shouts of abuse from parents but even the oppo coach thought I did OK. I have seen things go very sour in Swansea junior league games though, I saw a parent and the ref end up fighting, and the coach of one team and one of his teams parents too. Maybe they are more civilised in Neath! There is still the win at all costs mentality though, there was a coach who my wife heard encouraging one of his team to dive and also encouraging them to get stuck in and foul. In our coaching sessions we do a lot of technical work, try to teach the kids the basic skills and work up the ladder but they all want to be FIFA stars, they want to do flicks and tricks and curl one in the top corer from 30 yards. The hardest thing so far has been getting them to pass in matches, several just want to run until they lose the ball but then they all whinge when no one else passes, try pointing that out to them though. A few of them are really good, theres one who I'll liken to Alan Tate, no fuss, no nonsense, he just does his job, wins his tackles and then passes, he's a big lad too, he's just a bit quiet right now.

I agree that some kids have the me me attitude of keeping the ball then running up a blind ally only to lose the ball because all they want to do is score but the fault for that had to fall at the feet of their coaches either through ignorance or they never grew up themselves to realise it's about development not the result. There are some decent coaches out there who've taken the time to pass their badges but some are just there because no one else will run the side regardless of what age group . Go back 20 years and look at the rapid decline of the Senior league from 6 Divisions now down to 3 with no Swansea league at all.The kids have more opportunities to play with 4 g pitches no becoming more prevalent but we're still way behind other countries still playing on so called grass pitches , the junior League this year for one particular age group the season finishes at Xmas due to the lack of teams .The whole set up from coaching to accessibility to decent facilities needs a revamp and soon otherwise it won't be long before the only places available for kids to play will be at so call academies and we all know not all kids will be good enough so what happens to them

Lived in Neath for 37 years. Beg to differ. No better, no worse than Swansea or many other towns and cities.

Talycopa have a good u15's, not sure how they're doing this season but in previous years and age groups they played some good football, unfortunately as the girls got older a few dropped, sleepovers and the fear of missing out, it happens to most unfortunately

i'm lucky to be coaching away from Swansea, the biggest issue we have is any away game being in Reading which is 35/40 mins away from our ground every other weekend. My daughter and I are always rushing to get down for home games straight after haha. One bit of advice for the dribbling aspect, try a session in training where 6v6 or 5v5 game in a coned off area with 4 small coned off sections in each corner. The only way to score is for every member of the team to touch the ball and final pass ends up in a coned off area in the pitch side. Encourages passing and space finding. Make it a 1/2 or 3 touch session depending on ability

If you haven't visited Neath town centre in the last few years think you would be shocked as to how much it has changed

I hope it’s good. I mean no offence really. I do have a vicious sense of humour though . Just been kicked out of hotel room and just waiting 6 hours for pick up.

I remember a few years back at junior football level "coaches" tring to encourage the better players of other sides to join their teams so that they could win. Its an embarrassment, winning the Neath/Swansea U14s league more important than the kids enjoyment of the game.

Of course, but if he was provoked/assaulted even, what's he supposed to do, ? I'm no condoning anything he may have done, but we don't know the full strength of the incident. [Post edited 14 Oct 2022 22:16]
