Michael Duff makes startling admission with ten days to go to the new Championship season
at 10:07:58

Duff should resign if he feels that 3 players in and 2 more soon to arrive he still needs 5 or 6 players.
His tactics won't work at this level whatever the squad … Cardiff have shown that in the last couple of seasons.
And, really not very smart to let the world know his thoughts. Were he world class, Premier League, manager he could get away with it but he's not … he's a moderately successful third and fourth tier rookie.
What should the board be criticised for? Appointing a manager whose philosophy is 180 degrees away from what our squad is about AND our apprentices have been brought up playing.

Piroe destined to leave Swansea City
at 09:46:51

£12 million isn’t a low bid. £12 million is at the top end of independent valuations (£7 million to £12 million). They may not be our valuations and, compared Gyokeres, they may not be fair but they are what the markets are quoting.

The reasons Russell Martin is leaving and who he is taking with him
at 12:24:10

' … since March meant he felt unsupported and felt the rug could well be pulled from under him again in the summer.'
He had a hissy fit from February. Meetings with bosses straightened him out. But, he really did have no future at Swansea 16 points from 63 would have seen any other club giving him the push. Allocating him more funds, given his waste of recruitments over two seasons, would have concerned any owner.
Our final nine games showed he had the squad capable of promotion.

Paul Watson agrees his Swansea move ‘in principle’ Swans hierarchy aware of Nathan Jones issue
at 11:30:47

There are other managers I would prefer to Nathan Jones.
But, Cooper is worshiped by many and Toshack is a Swansea legend.
The reason Jones would be a poor appointment is it would give those who constantly moan something else to obsess over.

What price those Swansea City gems ?
at 10:38:39

The systematic sidelining of Ben Cabango when discussions of quality and value is bordering on the obsessive.
You mention three saleable assets Piroe, Grimes and Wood.
Independent valuations of these players is €8 m, €7 m and €1.2m respectively.
Cabango €10 m
In today's market I suggest only Wood is close to his valuation with the others mention overvalued.

The tale of the Swansea City decline this season
at 16:00:43

even the last minute loan attempt of Karlon Grant … that had been worked on for some time and it only fell through because WBA were letdown. The chain broke before getting to us.
The rot had well and truly taken hold from October. Given Martin's record of bring in players but not playing them would any January signings have difference before the end of the seaosn?

Has Russell Martin got any choice but to do this ?
at 11:30:25

Drip feeding younger players into games should have been happening all season.
If Martin does use the younger players they will be exposed to the toxicity of the manager's making.
While Martin is in change the style won’t change, the tactics won’t change so it doesn’t matter who is on the pitch the results won’t change.
I do not like seeing people lose their jobs which is part of the reason I believe Martin should be sacked. Eh! As unlikely as it is that we will be relegated this season it will be because of once brief period of success in the autumn. Would you bet on new players having any more success next season? It won’t happen and in a relegation Martin,s approach would be quite hopeless. Fair weather fans would fall away while the moaning of the conspiracy theorists and entitled ones would make supporting the Swans even harder. Income would drop leading to reduced hours and redundancies among the club's none-playing staff. The players and coaches rarely experience the financial consequences of their failures (handsome payments see to that) but to those down the hierarchy it can be devastating.
We should bite the bullet now so a new manager can get to grips with the squad and discover what is needed in the summer. It would be disastrous, in my opinion, to allow Martin to stay in post and influence the summer transfer period.

A strategy for the rest of this season ?
at 09:59:48

To play out from the back we need a dynamic midfield … our is not. Joe is a shadow of himself, Fulton is solid and Grimes one of the most negative and slow (of thought) midfield players in the league. Because our centre backs don’t defend but do hang around a wide midfield positions, the centre of the pitch often has a five man line of white … very crowded and very flat.
The result is the back three / four have no option but to pass across rather than forward. Last week Wood and Cabango had passes intercepted because the midfield was static rather than the pass being poor (Allen, Grimes and Manning being the chief culprits).
In addition, our forwards are not target players and none appear able to win an aerial battle or hold the ball.
While the 'tippy tapping' as some call it is frustrating and fraught with danger the fact is we concede more often as a result of long clearances from defence.
The problem is almost wholly with midfield and Martin has not addressed the problem. The obvious decision would be to replace Grimes with Ntcham who is technically more gifted, quicker thinking and doesn’t take four or five touches before playing a pass that was obvious from the off.
As you proposed a back four would / should create space in the midfield simply by taking one of the central five out of the line.
