We have a documentary thread, so how about books for Christmas pressies to give to yer brother, who won't read it, forget who gave it to him, and give it back to you by mistake in five years:
'The Escape' by Pippa York and David Walsh - Walsh is involved, so the writing's top class. It's a kind of a journal of the 2020-2022 Tours de France as the two of them share a car for weeks on end, but also a telling of Robert Millar's journey to become Pippa York. I found it educational, mature, light-hearted and - as Mortimer and Whitehouse would say - life-affirming.
I'm going to guess Peter Taylor and/or Sammy Lee. Those two were fixtures on that bench for what seemed like decades. I'd say they kipped in the dressing rooms in between matches.
Definitely more pace and swing on them, I thought, Mart?
I do think Madsen has been better than Chair on corners, but Oslo's point has to be considered, and also that we may not be as good this season at positioning, runs, decoys etc.
Not sure it matters either way, though. I think it was Jack Supple who pointed out that we were 23rd out of 24th at both attacking and defending set-pieces, and that was before Chair's return.
I'm undecided as well, just keeping all avenues open.
I did think we were fatigued pretty much from the off, though - poor at doubling up, poor at tracking back, slow to the ball, slow on the ball, etc.
So I do think fitness has to be questioned, at least.
What I can't decide is how much of that was physical - muscular, aerobic etc- and how much was mental - lack of focus, lack of aggression, lack of desire.
I think that a few things can be true here at the same time, Dave:
1) That Stéphan, having only made two outfield subs on Wednesday, might regret not changing the team more for Saturday 2) That the players are not fit enough, and 3) That the players tired so early on again (surely before physical fatigue should become an issue) that there might be a mentality issue within the team, squad, management and/or club.
I think all of the above could and maybe should be open to questioning.
