Really distressing news. There’s a police update due at 5:30 so hopefully we’ll learn that everyone is going to recover 🙏 |

And a mother from Syria. If he came across now he'd be packed off to Rwanda |

Looks great. Very well organised. No need to attack the police. |

I have an extra interest in this guy as he came through the same grassroots setup my boy plays for. |

You can’t when the content doesn’t truly represent the reality. So far we’ve had single sources from the likes of GB news. It should be easy - take the bias out of it, any school’s website with have the factual information available: SRE policy, quality marks, Equality policy, Diversity policy, newsletters etc. Where are the examples that the things suggested are happening? Again, nobody has been able to share “in these schools this is happening “. To me, there’s a lot of people getting cross with stuff that’s made up for clicks. I get people getting her up about stonewall. For me they go to far in many ways. But to suggest that they have any direct power on a schools curriculum just isn’t true, no matter what the news source. |

I have curriculum oversight of 14 schools including Sex and Relationships Education and the suites of equality policies. I have never seen or heard of any discreet ‘teaching’ of LGBT issues. Personally I don’t see the need for LGBT champions in a primary school but theoretically I could envisage signing up to the toolkit in case there were some useful resources. I’m sure there will be some outlying schools somewhere in the country when it comes to these matters but the norm? No. [Post edited 20 Apr 22:36]

The article didn’t provide any evidence so doesnt help. My issue is that nobody seems to be able to state what is actually going on in schools that is so awful. Twitter links are found, viral videos are shared and resources cited from the very extreme far end of the spectrum (some way too far IMO), with no link to where they’re being used. Surlelt if this is so widespread it would be easy to point to a school through their website (all of which have their curriculums displayed)? I’ve never seen anything in a primary that goes anything further than “be kind”. The OP suggests it’s normal but not my experience. |

I’m not sure I’ve offered an opinion, have I? I said I think it’s ok to tell kids that families differ but that’s a fact really. I also said that there aren’t 4 year old LGBT champions. I don’t think that’s an opinion. If the OP is correct and it’s the norm, then it should be easy to find examples of where this is the case. Nobody has done so as yet. Nobody seems to know what a primary school LGBT champion would do. Nobody knows of a school that has fully implemented the Stonewall resources. Nobody seems to be able to articulate how LGBT is being ‘taught’ [Post edited 20 Apr 18:10]

That’s your interpretation. Any evidence of children being taught that book? Far more evidence of The Boy in the Dress by David Walliams being used. Over a million copies sold, a Christmas BBC film and musical by the RSC. I reckon the cast majority of 7 to 14 year olds will be able to tell you all about it. Or as I said earlier in the thread, Giraffes Can’t Dance is the one that widely used in the EYFS. [Post edited 20 Apr 13:59]

There must be different rules. GB News keeps falling foul of OFCOM yet the Star seems to not suffer the same way with the IPSO. We don’t have a far left TV station (at least not like the US) to compare it to. When I see Talk TV and GB News failing in the UK in their attempt to be Fox, it makes me proud to British. Our TV news isn’t perfect, but it’s a darn sight better than what’s been dumped on Americans. |

What you’ve described there is pretty much exactly what is going on in practically every primary school in the land. The idea that schools have 4 year old LGBT champions is just laughable. Unfortunately that is just what the GB news article that started the thread wants to suggest to people who don’t know what an LGBT champion would be in a primary school, what the resources are and in what situations they could be used. There are very few things that all primary schools would consistently do in this area. All would certainly support the families you mentioned . I suppose that’s why I’m quite surprised by OHL’s response above. I work in a pretty mixed school but telling children that families can come in all shapes and sizes would not cause one second of disquiet. |
