In defence of Huw Jenkins
at 21:35 27 Dec 2017

After reading the critics of Huw Jenkins on this forum I feel we need a reality check. I feel that the situation we have found ourselves in is due to the excessive money we are paying players to play for us as our location is perhaps less glamorous than maybe a London or big city club like Liverpool or Manchester.

The board must ensure at all costs that the books are balanced at the end of the day to ensure professional football continues in a Swansea. To this end, Huw Jenkins and the board should be applauded for the way that they have managed the finances over the last ten or so years.

It seems clear to me that gates of 20000 or so are not enough to maintain a Premier League club unless a multi millionaire is prepared to bankroll the club like Bournemouth.

This is why the board were so keen to increase capacity and maybe are looking at renam8ng rights for the stadium together with increased commercial opportunities.

The only black mark I can see is the amount of investment the American owners are making. You have to speculate to accumulate.

Regarding our current position, I fear that the team need a root and branch clear out of the deadwood as team performances are at times gutless. This can only be achieved with a new manager supported by Leon Britton and Alan Curtis to revert to our Swanselona style.

To this end our recruitment needs to be much better attracting players who are comfortable on the ball, with pace up front and a solid defence with a solid midfield.

To achieve this though, we may need to go down and come back up again.

Transfer money
at 22:56 21 Aug 2017

With all these big money transfers being considered my thoughts turned to the transfer of Delli Alli from M K Dons to Tottenham.

I am not aware the precise amount Tottenham paid for his services but any money they paid was equivalent to what both clubs agreed the player was worth.

My point here is that there is never any mention of what Delli Alli owes Milton Keynes for signing him up and developing him in his football career.

Why are players not forced to pay a sum to the parent club when they move on. I think small clubs could benefit quite a lot from such income. It seems to me that player's wages are now becoming obscene so some of that should trickle down to parent clubs.

My suggestion would be for a player transferring between clubs should force a player to pay 10% of the fee agreed between the two clubs. This would be quite separate to the agreed fee between the two clubs.

Any thoughts?

New signings
at 00:02 28 Aug 2014

Having seen the Swans after three games in the Premier League my assessment of the new signings is:

Bafitemi Gomis - Has the strength to hold the ball up well and lay it off and can also score good goals. Yet to be proven as a goalscorer of headed goals though but excited to see how he progresses through the season.

Tom Carroll - A creative player which the side badly needs and has a promising future in the game. He can be a bit lightweightt in midfield though so a lot is relying on Jonjo Shelvey as the creative player in midfield. (This was one area where Pablo Hernandez was very good but inconsistency in passing and losing posession in dangerous areas let him down) .

Jefferson Montero - Has pace to burn but in the World Cup against top full backs he seemed too easy to knock off the ball. Promising though.

Gylfi Sigurdsson - All we could have hoped for if he plays behind the striker. As Michu seemed to lose interest at the start of 2014 Gylfi is an excellent replacement and will score a good few goals (especially away from home) ghosting into the box unmarked.

Ki Sung Yung - Definately improved over the last twelve months and is an excellent defensive midfielder.

Federico Fernandez - Seemed to cope well against Rotherham but unsure how he would cope against Premier League strikers. Kyle Bartley had a superb game against Rotherham though and with Jordi Amat we seem to be well blessed with support for Ash.

Lucas Fabianski - Brilliant performances so far. I have not seen such a good goalkeeper in dealing with crosses for a long time.

All in all a promising start though but there are concerns.

Bony is yet to get off the mark (he seems to be going through a bad patch at the moment).

Midfield is the key especially creatively so a lot is riding on Jonjo and Tom Carroll's ability to stand up to scrutiny in the Premier League.

What does everyone think?

Opposition fans bringing spanish flags
at 00:24 14 Mar 2014

It seems the West Brom supporters are bringing spanish flags with them to support Pepe Mel. I hope our spaniards don't get confused by this and score own goals instead!

It should make for a great atmosphere though.
