You are right , she is a very capable operator at the dispatch box. She asks very relevant concise questions .... and the riposte is always What did your party do when they were in power ? Starmer needs to realise that he is there to answer questions not avoid them , that's the whole point of PMQ's . Every week she exposes him for what he really is ..... a complete dud who rambles on and leaves us none the wiser as to what his real beliefs are.
Koumas looked a threat through the middle when he was on .We lost because we had Josh Sheehan marking their centre back for the corner - height imbalance pure and simple.
Not driven in Italy but Naples to me looked a bit random as far as the highway code was concerned 😳 Lima in Peru is another place where you don't see many cars without dents in them .
Bulgarias pretty bad . I hired a car there and had only driven 10 miles or so and witnessed 3 accidents . In one there were 2 guys squaring up to each other on the side of the road steam pouring out of the crumpled bonnet of one car . I also witnessed a car pull out and overtake in front of us , 3 cars , when approaching a blind bend . Sheer madness but he got away with it. The motorways were not very well surfaced but a bit better than the town roads . Drove up towards Varna from Sunny Beach area and then North West towards Romania . It was a long time ago now so hopefully things have changed for the better.ĺ
I was shocked to read this week of a 78 year old gentleman who was attacked and badly beaten by 4 muslim youths . His "crime" was walking his dog past the local mosque during eid. Prior to this I was taking reports of anti dog stances by muslims with a pinch of salt but this confirms to me that there is some truth in what demetrius is alleging. Utterly shocking .
Sounds good I will look them up . Albert's Schloss atm have a pub in Brum near the library. It's the only one I've been in .There are also some in London and Manchester. They sell in large stein like glasses . The beer is ice cold and tastes totally different from normal lagers .Erdinger and Paulaner are the ones I ve tried. They have live music and German food . If you visit in the evening it gets very busy so get there early is best.
If you get the chance visit Albert Schloss . There is a chain of them I think . They specialise in German beers Paulaner etc. Not the cheapest but you will know you have had a drink when you visit there.
85 years ago last week the RN altered the course of WW2 . Germany invaded Greece they couldn't do it via a seabourne landing because Britannia ruled the waves . They sent the paratroopers in despite Hitlers reservations. Result was the Germans took a bit of a hiding from the allies - Brits aussies and NZ. aided by the very brave Greeks - especially the farmers . Yes the Germans eventually took control and the allies retreated to Sphakia in the south where destroyers picked up those who were lucky enough to make it . If the RN at the time were not strong then Hitler would have gone for a landing on the beaches they probably would have lost fewer men and taken control quicker . The way things panned out their troops were shot at while in the air in their parachutes with heavy losses . They expected to take Crete in about 2 days they were still fighting a week later . Why is this so important? Well Hitler couldn't launch operation Barbarossa until his southern flank was protected IE Crete . He feared the allies bombing the Ploesti oilfields in Romania from Crete and he needed the oil for his panzers . the Crete situation delayed operation Barbarossa which ended with the Russian winter causing the Germans huge problems. It also showed That the Germans were not invincible despite the fall of France Belgium Holland . 85 years ago may not be relevant now but history has a habit of repeating itself and those who fail to learn the lessons are doomed to repeat them. The navy today has a role to play despite all the advances in missile technology . The losses the Germans suffered on Crete ensured that there was never going to be another German airborne invasion in ww2. I recently walked through the German and allied war cemeteries on Crete . What hit home were the ages of the allies mostly 21 22 23 year olds . The Germans were a little older mostly 25 28 30 . It really hits home when you stand there and look at all the graves . Also in The German cemetery with over 4000 graves many of them died after 1941 . So they must have been killed by the Greek partisans . The actions of these brave Cretans kept the Germans occupied and tied them down resulting in less manpower on the frontline . They hated being there because they could never relax and were always fearful. The Cretans paid a high price though in reprisals but it never stopped them fighting back and in doing so showed exceptional bravery.
It always pays to do your research and check out the lie of the land as they say. I remember years ago doing handstands and plunging into the med off a diving board in the sea off Rhodes . I did this a few times and swam back to the shore. I got chatting to the Greek beach deckchair official who spoke very good English who was sitting and looking out to sea. During the course of our conversation she mentioned that a few years previously a German tourist had dived off the same board and had hit the water and his body had become wedged between 2 rocks under the surface. No one realised what had happened no one had watched it and it wasn't until a long time later that his body was discovered. It sent a bit of a cold shiver down my spine . The moral of the story is do your research beforehand speak to the locals understand the risks and remember many nations including Greece don't have the same standards of safety as the UK. This applies to things like riding motorbikes/quadbikes abroad as well and also simpler activities like hill walking . The lad from the UK who sadly died last summer in Tenerife being a prime example .
Labour are proposing a tax for staycations in this country for Brits . So if a family wants to visit the seaside they will have to pay for the privilege in the form of a tax . So there we have it ... not only having to bathe in water which most of the time is unfit due to sewage outfalls but having to pay extra on top . Now I would say that our seaside towns need all the help they can get in what is a seasonal ability to make money dependent to a great extent on decent summer weather . I visited Newquay last year and I was shocked by the rundown state of it - empty shops and businesses . This will be a kick in the teeth for many of those resorts and for some may be the end of the line.
