I respectfully disagree. Matos still has time and the authority to name a new captain. For me it has to be Stamenic. Matos needs to make the change now, or as you've stated, he will have "missed the boat" if not done very soon. In Stamenic, Matos should have a private chat and point out why MS is his man to lead the team. Hopefully, having the head coach's confidence will give MS the inspiration to play a much more aggressive role and help shore up the team's defensive struggles. |

No, not bad and pretty good. But, compared to what? The problem is that when you compare the two 37-yr old managers, Hellberg's most recent experiences & records are at the top-level of the Swedish pyramid; whereas, Matos only has a 6-2-3 record as a manager in the 2nd division in Portugal. That's a BIG roll of the dice, imo! |

I'm not a betting man but can you bet against the bookies' odds that he won't be the manager? |

Really makes you wonder how widespread gambling is by players, coaches, and referees in soccer, and quite frankly, all major sports. Here in the U.S. the FBI has uncovered gambling by NBA & Major League Baseball players. One player, according to the federal indictment, was Terry Rozier, who was playing for the NBA Charlotte Hornets. Rozier allegedly tipped off a friend that he planned to exit a game early (due to a supposed injury) on March 23, 2023, so that the friend and associates could place wagers on his statistical “unders” (i.e., bets that his performance would fall below the expected totals). I understand that after the game Rozier went to a hotel room where he and his associates collected a bag full of cash amounting to $200,000.00. In Cleveland, a pitcher for the Cleveland Guardians, also bet on himself. Emmanuel Clase, a relief pitcher for the Cleveland Guardians, was indicted on federal charges related to a gambling scheme, according to reports by Reuters & ESPN.com. Details of the indictment stated that in May 2023, Clase agreed with bettors to throw specific pitches (type/speed/outcome) and then those bettors placed prop-bets (bets on individual pitch outcomes) using that inside information. One example was cited to be in a game under his control in which he threw a ball on the first pitch of an at-bat (intentionally outside the strike zone) so the bettor could win a bet on that outcome. The alleged scheme resulted in at least $400,000+ in winnings for the bettors. It just makes you wonder how widespread this is. Gambling commercials on TV and Internet are so commonplace these days. |

I know earlier reports indicated certain personal concerns that could sway his thinking, but still, money talks! |

This is my opinion (and I take responsibility for my views!): Sheehan still hasn't figured out what his best team is. Three CBs and two wingbacks? I really like Casey starting, even at the expense of one of the two lumbering giants, if you go with 4 in the back. With Tymon out v. Bristol due to too many yellow cards, then it looks like Ishe may get the start at LB. Who to play in midfield? Besides Galbraith, who does he trust, really trust? Stamenic, Franco, Widell, Eom, Yalcouye, on occasion have played well. But it's a guessing game on who's going to show up. A couple of the old guard in Cullen & Fulton? Some of these could play out wide along with Ronald, Inoussa, Benson, possibly Wales. Vip will probably get the nod if he doesn't get hurt playing for Slovenia. It seems management really wants Idah to play at the expense of Vip sometimes, trying to get him up to speed. Maybe because of other clubs' possible interest in Vip for a possible sale in Jan? A lot of these players are very young, and youthful, exuberant players will make mistakes. But it's the mistakes made recently by the veteran players like Burgess & Key, that's more concerning. I like Sheehan, like others on this board, and I think the players really like him as well. But that sometimes is the problem in that maybe he's trying to keep everyone happy. |

Yes, a Jan window sale is too soon for either Ethan's or the club's benefit. If Swans were to get promoted and he's one of the players that clearly makes this happen, then I hope management re-works his contract to keep him for our journey to the next level. But that's wishful thinking at the moment but I still think we have the players to move into the top 6. |

Next summer, please! IMO, I think it would be foolish to sell him in the Jan window, especially if we're within spitting distance from a playoff berth. He'll command as much if not more after the season is over if he continues to play well. Isn't he under contract until summer of 2028? |

Idah seems to be just waiting for his chance and not helping all that much defensively. Not very active. Our other forwards chase the ball a lot better. I'd rather see him be more active. |

His style kind of reminds me of Ollie Cooper, with his dribble-first mentality. But, he did make an excellent pass to Zip for the 2nd goal. Wouldn't hurt to spend more time in the weight room to strengthen/muscle up his physical presence on the field. |

Ronald had 2 or 3 decent runs, with one of his shots on goal forcing the keeper to tip onto the crossbar. He still is so inconsistent and is one of those things that need sorting out, or find someone who can get a decent cross in or a shot off more consistently. I agree with most who thought Stamenic's play was superb a lot of the game but I agree with an earlier post during the game that "he was looking for a yellow card", and he finally got one. I also don't like seeing a short corner toward the end of the game when we had so many much taller players on the pitch to try to get a 3rd goal. And, although Eom was credited with an assist, his overall play is still lacking, running around with or without the ball like an aimless, headless horseman. But, the game was won, and the team did have a lot of good, improved play. As I said before, Sheehan still has his team believing in him, and that's what most owners will monitor. When the team stops believing in him, then he can start packing, and OHL can drive down to pick him up and take him to his next destination. |

Yes, I know some fans want a "light-switch" type of change in Swans' play. And yes, 10+ games have been played. But sometimes it takes several baby steps to get everyone on the same page, especially with as many new additions to the team. Look at what's happening at Liverpool. Diaz, Nunez, Alexander-Arnold left and they brought in Kerkez, Frimpong, Chiesa, Wirtz, & of course Isak. Just lost yesterday, 4th straight PL loss. I don't think Slot's found the right combination just yet (plus injuries to Alisson & Isak don't help). I still think Sheehan's the right choice but really needed yesterday's win to ease the pressure. He certainly hasn't lost his squad's confidence in him. Lots of good, positive stuff from yesterday's win, but still lots of things to sort out. Patience from our sometimes negative, highly critical posters is still needed. |

If a 3-5-2 were the formation, then you could utilize an Ishe or Manuel or both as subs, and play Ronald or Eom or Cullen or Widell or Wales behind Vip or Idah. Vig GK, Ben, Burgess, Casey, Key (RWB), Tymon (LWB), Franco, Galbraith, Yalcouye, Ronald, Vip. |

I don't know how much fault lies with the coaches, Sheehan and/or O'Dea. I will say that Sheehan and his coaches still haven't figured out who to start, sub, and what's their best formation. Sometimes, it takes awhile before players figure out how to play with each other, to know what each other's tendencies are. I really like Yalcouye & Galbraith being on the field at the same time, along with either Franco or Stamenic. And, I really like the idea of playing a 3-5-2 with Casey playing with Ben & Burgess. |

I agree with your suggestion. A really good team can go from one formation to another just to be unpredictable. Casey could be that player who moves to a def MF when switching to a back four during a game. I would suggest that Galbraith or Yalcouye be the MF who is given license to roam and support both Vip and the midfield. |

I should also add that even Liverpool is having issues with their right fullback. They started Conor Bradley there in their match Saturday at Chelsea but had to sub him and play one of their best midfielders, Szoboszlai, since Bradley was constantly getting beaten by the Chelsea winger. Granted, Szoboszlai has been playing as their right fullback since Alexander-Arnold left in the summer. But Slot wanted to see if he could get by with a capable Bradley in that spot. |

I usually like your posts and would agree with your thinking that Sheehan might be looking out for certain players like Inoussa and Galbraith. Why not try Parker out at RB? Key has played all but 15 min of the 9 games (795 min). Only Vig, Burgess, and Tymon have played all nine games (810 min each). Like Key, Cabango has played all but 15 min. OHL posted that Key is not the scapegoat here. I might agree since other players at times haven't played to their potential game-in, game-out, but his statement means that Swans are playing with one arm tied behind their back with him in there all ninety min games less 15. Reminds me of the definition of insanity! All I'm saying is that Sheehan needs to try something different (for more than 15 min) on that side of the pitch. Whether it's Parker or Galbraith, or maybe even Santos (I think I recall that he can play as a fullback), some tinkering is warranted in my opinion. |
 | Forum Reply | How is Alan Sheehan doing ? at 18:54 5 Oct 2025
All I'm saying is that it's not working on that side, and I would think that at least trying something different should be considered. Tymon has 2 assists; Key has none. Inoussa who plays on the left flank also has 2 assists. Eom who also plays on the left flank has one assist. Yes, I would agree that Key is not in the lineup, (has played 795 min in the league and 915 min total), for his defensive skills but as someone who's supposed to be able to put the ball in the box or releasing it up the line. I don't see him doing that on a consistent basis, like Tymon does on the other side. |
