Conference side Mansfield Town had a bid for Dale's out of favour striker accepted by the club, but the move broke down after the former Leeds forward couldn't agree terms with the club.

Elding is currently on trial with League Two side Plymouth Argyle, and he played sixty minutes for them on Friday night in a friendly game against Bristol City.

His performance brought mixed reviews from those in attendance. Some described him as being slightly off the pace, but praised him for some nice touches combining well with his strike partner on the night.

However, it appears that he came close to not even making it as far as that after the Stags had tried to take Elding to Field Mill - a rejected move confirmed by his agent on Twitter. Personal terms were the key issue as he rejected the chance to drop two divisions for regular first team football.

Should the trial at Plymouth no work out, Elding will continue to remain on the transfer list.
