Jewell Still Looking for Signings
Jewell Still Looking for Signings

Town boss Paul Jewell says yesterday’s sixth and seventh summer signings don’t mark the end of his search for additions to his squad. Having brought in keeper David Stockdale and striker or midfielder Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, the Blues manager says there are further deals in the pipeline.

Speaking after last night’s abandoned game at Colchester, Jewell said: “We are looking for a couple more players, no doubt about that.

“There are things that are ongoing and these things can take time and what we have done well is keep everything quiet. So, hopefully, we can continue to do that.”

Having signed so many players in such a relatively short space of time — seven of yesterday’s starters have joined since he took over as manager - the Liverpudlian says it may take a little while for his team to gel: “At the end of the day, I’ve said before, it’s a long season.

“I’ve been here six or seven months. It’s a big job, it’s not going to happen overnight and I’m sure people know that long-term success will come gradually.

“We can’t go from being one to the other in a short space of time, that’s very difficult to do. But in time we will get it right and that’s the most important thing.”

Striker Nathan Ellington missed last night’s game with a minor shoulder injury but Jewell says the former Wigan man should be back in action in “a couple of days”.

Meanwhile, reports in South Yorkshire claim Sheffield United have dropped striker Ched Evans's price to below £1.5 million in order to remove his £15,000-a-week wage bill from their books.

Blues boss Jewell recently denied making an offer for the Welshman but admitted he was "on the list", however a move for another frontman seems unlikely having added Jay Emmanuel-Thomas to the squad yesterday.

Elsewhere, midfielder Conor Hourihane is expected to play for Plymouth in their home friendly against Truro City this evening. Hourihane, who has a six-month contract with the Blues, is on trial and is looking to win a loan deal with the Pilgrims.
