Grayson rants about lacklustre Leeds
Grayson rants about lacklustre Leeds

Simon Grayson was less than impressed with his squad, as they produced yet another insipid display in Norway last night. Though we are still unbeaten in our pre-season programme, we haven’t exactly dominated any of the games, which is worrying when the season proper kicks off at Southampton in ten days time.

We needed a last-minute goal from Ramon Nunez to salvage a draw from the game with Sandesfjord, after Ross McCormack had missed a penalty for the second time in this sequence of friendlies. Simon Grayson was very critical of his players when he spoke to the Yorkshire Post.

“In the first half we were average to say the least. That was disappointing. In the second we were brighter and sharper but certain issues have made me look at the squad and individuals and realise that we’ve still got quite a bit of work to do. One or two have made me question whether they’re going to be good enough to go into the team. I’ve said that to the players.”

This must be a concern for us all, especially as we’ve already lost three of last season’s first team regulars and rumours continue to circulate that Gradel and Snodgrass could soon be tempted to move elsewhere by better offers from rival clubs. Is the problem that the squad is no longer strong enough, or do the remaining players now see Leeds as a selling club and don’t feel that we have enough ambition to challenge for promotion this season?

It’s becoming perfectly clear that we need a signing or two in the next week to improve the spirit in the dressing room and plug a few gaps in the squad (especially up front, so we’re not stuck with the lumbering Paynter in the absence of Becchio and Somma). Ken Bates keeps promising that two or three new players are on their way to Elland Road, but now we need to see some action.

I am reliably informed that our esteemed owner hit the roof when a certain A. Lonergan arrived at ER at a personal cost to the old miser of 200k. Apparently, his minions had misheard his order to "Get me A Loan Again".
