Garry Monk celebrates at Brighton and confirms - the Swans are officially better than Leeds

The Swans had been denied the chance to lift the League One title when it was officially won because Leeds believed that they had not broken any league rules - a claim thrown out of the arbitration court this week.   And with that decision out of the way the Swans went on to record their fourteenth away league success of the season on the way to finally being presented with their silverware.

And as the after match celebrations continued long into the night, the Swans captain reinforced his belief that there can be no dispute from any corner that the Swans were the best that League One had to offer this season despite any comments that may whimper from Yorkshire to the contrary.

Monk told the News of the World "It was important we won today because it proved beyond doubt that we're the best team in this division and not Leeds.

"It means we'd have been Champions even if Leeds had won back 15 points.  We're going home 16 points ahead of them and that's given us great satisfaction.

"We've won this division outright.  We're officially the best team.  We could have taken it easy against Brighton because nothing was at stake but we were desperate to win it - in fact, we produced a performance we can be proud of.

"I always believed we were the best side in League One this season.  I'm not bitter against what has gone but I'm disappointed we didn't get the trophy for our last game at the Liberty Stadium and I don't think the football league have cared about Swansea in the last couple of weeks.

"But at least we got the trophy today.  Our fans deserved to see that.

"This is a brilliant moment, the best of my career so far.  It's not often you can win a league title.  I can't wait for next season because we'll be playing big teams in big grounds."

And that wasn't a dig at Leeds United in the last line either......!!
