Jackarmy.net at the double!!!

Home > Story Index >jackarmy.net at the double!!!

The game kicked off at 11am in baking heat and in a repeat of the first leg the Sleepinggiant.com team started brighter and had the best of the opening exchanges. In fact our eastern rivals could have taken an early lead after missing two clear cut chances on goal in the opening 10 minutes. After their slow start the Jacks soon started to find their feet and begun to stamp their authority in a tightly packed midfield, but on 15 minutes disaster struck when their inspirational captain Reeco fell awkwardly after a late Cardiff challenge and immediately called for assistance whilst holding his arm and in obvious pain. The Jacks player manager was quickly taken to hospital and was later diagnosed with a broken arm.

This forced the Jacks into an early change and Tim Whitford came on as substitute whilst Ciaran slotted into Reeco's role in midfield. Far from being disheartened by the loss of their skipper, the Jacks stepped up a gear and started to dominate the midfield creating two chances which could have seen them take the lead. Firstly, Lee Hopkins threaded a superb ball through from midfield to set up Stuart Williams who saw his shot whistle past the upright with the keeper beaten. Moments later, Lee Morgan beat two players on the left flank and laid the ball inside to Phil Crocker who saw his volley beaten away by the Cardiff keeper at the near post. The Jacks were rewarded for their spell of pressure when Lee Morgan put Ciaran through on goal after 35 minutes, the keeper could only get a hand to the shot which wasn't enough to stop it from finding the back of the net.

Half-Time………Jackarmy 1 Sleepinggiant 0

After an inspirational half-time teamtalk from Lee Morgan the Jacks came out for the second half well prepared for the expected Cardiff onslaught. But with the midday heat taking it's toll on tired Cardiff limbs, the challenge they expected never came and the Jacks soon settled into the style of football that we all know their capable of. Stroking the ball around the field at pace, the Jacks soon had the Cardiff lads chasing shadows and the inevitable second goal came on 55 minutes when Craig Draper coolly slotted home from 12 yards. Jackarmy 2 Sleepinggiant 0 The Jacks were now attacking at will, scything through the tired Cardiff defence time and time again. The third goal came only 6 minutes later when Lee Hopkins ran nearly 60 yards to hit a low drive which gave the Cardiff keeper no chance, Jackarmy 3 Sleepinggiant 0. With the game now won and the Jackarmy boys turning on the "samba" style, it was time to give their starting line up a well earned rest, making no less than 6 substitutions in the last 20 minutes. Midfielder Neil Matthews added to the Cardiff misery after 80 minutes, finding the net from 10 yards to make it Jackarmy 4 Sleepinggiant 0. Jackarmy also had a fifth goal disallowed in bizarre circumstances when the referee noticed that Craig Draper, who supplied the cross for the goal, had been drinking out of a water bottle at the time!!! Some wonderful tricks and turns by Stuart McDonald summed up the Jacks domination as the rest of the game was played out in an almost party like atmosphere.

Jack celebrations greeted the final whistle and the realisation that they had created history by completing the double over their rivals. It was a very proud Dave Hannan who received the Billy Ayre Trophy from Sleepinggiant captain Mozzer and soon after Reeco received a hero's welcome on his return from casualty. It was another wonderful day for Welsh football and once again the Swansea and Cardiff lads did their clubs proud. The Jackarmy.net squad can now look forward to a lap of honour at the Vetch field on August 10th where they'll get the chance to show off their well earned silverware.

Who are we???....................JACKARMY!!!
