Oue Fate (and my fete) In Safe Hands

I have complete faith in the people currently running the show at Vetch Field, and whilst I'm looking forward to the first League game against Bury I'm also enjoying the relaxing feeling of watching our precious club going from strength to strength - both on the pitch and off it.

There is a real feel-good factor surrounding the Swans at the moment, stemming from the successful battle against relegation last season. Since that nail-biting last day finale against Hull things have just got better and better; significant progress on the Morfa Stadium, the appointment of a Chairman and the signatures of some very talented and exciting players.

The fact that we have signed Leon Britton, Roberto Martinez and Lee Trundle speaks volumes. All of these players have been convinced of the vision and ambition at the club by Brian Flynn and Huw Jenkins. All three could and should be playing at a higher level and Messrs Flynn and Jenkins have made them believe that they will play at a higher level - for Swansea City in a magnificent new Morfa Stadium.

The club has changed dramatically since the Mel Nurse-led consortium wrestled control from Tony Petty. It has become a focal point for the local community instead of a twisted reflection of its owners, rightly viewed with suspicion by the fans, the council and local businesses, all of whom have suffered at the hands of people like Petty and Mike Lewis

I'll give you an example of the positive changes that have taken place; please step forward Mr Leigh Dineen, Vice Chairman of Swansea City Football Club. I contacted Leigh a couple of weeks ago with a plea for help…my employer, Remploy, is staging a summer fete to raise money for Ysgol Crug Glas special school and no fete is complete without a public figure to open proceedings.

Not only has Leigh managed to secure the attendance of Cyril the Swan free of charge, he has also volunteered his own services at what can only be an extremely busy time for all concerned at the club. I must confess I have badgered the man into submission, sending email after email, but on each and every occasion Leigh has responded in double quick time and he's gone out of his way to help in any way that he can.

Opening a summer fete may seem like a trivial matter but it speaks volumes for the commitment the club now has to the community it represents. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Leigh for all his help - it really is appreciated!!

The current regime isn't perfect - as highlighted by the Tony Pennock, Peter Owen and Bath City controversies. But these are minor hiccups compared to the problems of the past. Inch by inch we are clawing our way back to stability and sustainable prosperity.

Yes, Cardiff City are one step away from the Premiership. But unless Sam Hammam gets his own way over the plans for a new stadium he will walk away, leaving the club in massive financial trouble. The truth is that Cardiff are just as likely to be the next Sheffield Wednesday rather than the new Manchester United.

Bluebirds fans should enjoy their success whilst they can because I firmly believe that the season after next will see both Swansea and Cardiff playing Second Division football. We have the manager, we have the Board and we have the players to take us to promotion this season…yes, our fate (and my fete) truly is in safe hands.
