What The Fans Said - FA Cup 5th Round Draw

Fans Views - The FA Cup Draw

P_Sumbler Posted on 26/1 18:26Email this Message | Gutted But Then Again

When I first heard this afternoon I was gutted. Make no bones about it. Still am in a way but we have a great chance of winning this game. Tranmere have it all to lose, they will be expected to win. Had we got them in Round 1 or 2 we would have fancied our chances so why not now? The draw is only bad if we lose, if we win then its the last 8 of the FA Cup. THE LAST EIGHT! This is a great chance to get to that stage and we couldnt have asked for a better chance short of the same opposition at home. What we have to ensure is that we get that chance and then its one sterling performance more and the semi finals. We ain't gonna win the cup but lets put our name in its history this season with a quarter final place at a bare minimum. That is well withing our capabilities?

I agree. When I heard the draw (tucked up in a store cupboard with my radio walkman!)I was gutted. I walked back to my seat sat down next to my mate and just said "utterly devastated", and I just sat there in silence for about 2 minutes. But then I said "give me an hour or two and I'll be buzzing about a trip to a 5th round tie we have every chance of winning". I genuinely think we can do this, Tranmere are nothing special, and Robbo, Howard and Trundle are gonna be so fired up for this it will be scary. Tranmere have made a name for themselves by giantkilling in the Cup, but this time round they will be the favourites, all the pressure will be on them. Quater-Finals and £150000 here we come!

I'm afraid we'll have to wait until our QF victory to get £400,000.

I dont know why everyone is so gutted! Alright it wasnt the big one we all wanted but it could have been alot worse! Burnley away or Sheff Utd away would have been a gutter! I honestly think we will go to Tranmere and win. I dont even think we'll need a replay. They are in the bottom 8 of div 2 and we are in the top 8 of div 3 so there wont be alot of difference between the 2 teams. If we can take 2000 jacks up there and sing our hearts out I'm sure that we'll pull this one off! COME ON YOU SWANS!!!!!!!!!!

wasnt that the purpose of this thread?

Why do I have the $hitty feeling that we're gonna draw away, and then lose at home!?!? At least Trundle Robbo etc should be up for it, whats the chances of tv coverage? With Trundle one of the hottest names in the football league at the moment, you'd expect the BBC or whoever has the rights to show us in the cup, unless they think we're going into the final 8! 2,500 away supporters to Tranmere - may actually get a ticket!

I was really looking forward to playing a Premisership team home or away today. I had said all day long to my friend in college. "I bet we get Tranmere away" There were about 20 people watching the draw in my class and Tranmere came out second and I knew ball number 2 would come out. Gutted OK so we can beat Tranmere and through to the quarter finals. But if we don't I will be really disappointed as I've never seen Swansea play a team in the top flight and I'm desperate to see that. If we do go out though. We got to the fifth round of the FA Cup and didn't play a Prem team, Bet not many teams have done that. Just our luck eh. It's not as if we are going to win the cup, so I'd rather go out to a big team, get loads of cash and concentrate on the league!

Don't be…disappointed Matt, you're a young lad with a lifetime to support the Swans. It's over twenty years now-that we played all the 'premier' side's, I went to them all, every home and away game, to be honest-- I have enjoyed a lot of the game's against lower sides--- much more than playing the so called elite teams. An instance once, we were away to Arsenal, my brother had seats that his company always used (about four or five) at the Arsenal and he ( bruv) took up three seats and went to sleep. Mind you-- at the time they were known as boring Arsenal. We won the game, but as I said-I have had better game's away in the lower division's

I have to agree with Matt in a way. We are in the 5th round of the FA cup but the highest team we have played is Preston from the 1st, dont get me wrong i'd rather be in the 5th round, with a chance of getting to the quarters, after playing league/conference teams, than lose in the 3rd/4th to a prem team but 24 years was the last time we got to the 5th round and i doubt we will do it again for another couple of years. But saying that theres a few all premiershit ties, so we have a great chance of winning the cup. Im looking foward to my first trip to Birkenhead......No really i am. Prenton Park is a modern ground...er the vetch isn't! I like the way you think this match will be a walk in the park for you lot. Tranmere have got a crackin cup history over the last 5 years. Swansea have had easy home draws and didn't play well against Preston. Preston didn't turn up for the game. Fuller wasn't interested. Don't count your chickens yet.

No one thinks this will be a walk in the park. We do think we have a great chance as your a lower half second divison outfit and we've just beaten a side from the top half of the first. We did ok Saturday, Preston were'nt great but we deserve credit for that and we still beat them. There's no such thing as "an eays home draw". Rushden and Diamonds are a solid side and we blew them aside conference sides always raise their game in the cup and preston are in the first divison.

>>I like the way you think this match will be a walk in the park for you lot<< Eh?? Who mentioned that? If u read my post properly you will see that i am gutted with the draw but obvioulsy we have a better chance then we would have had, if we were drawn a prem team away. >>Tranmere have got a crackin cup history over the last 5 years. Swansea have had easy home draws and didn't play well against Preston<< Yes, i know Tranmere have a good cup history, well done to you, but just because we have had "easy home draws" (It was nothing of the sort!!) and didnt play well against Preston, your saying we shouldnt be there? Hey, we won so we deserve to be where we are, >>Preston didn't turn up for the game. Fuller wasn't interested.<< More like O'leary didnt give Fuller a look in >>Don't count your chickens yet.<< Your lot are the ones whos writing us off and not the other way around!!! Rolls eyes Have a nice day!

I'm delighted with the draw. 90 mins from the QF FFS! That may never happen again in our lifetime!

<> No one has said that. What's wrong with being confident of beating a lower table 2nd divison side in the cup. We've got every chance (as you have). It's a fairly even game with you the slight favourites. You can't knock us for being confident of our chances. Backed by a passionate away following (including cyberwarrior scousejack), we will put up a good fight. put it this way: We are not scared of you, not one bit.

EnglishJack Posted on 26/1 13:28Email this Message | Tranmere - 17th in Division 2! But there...

home form's not too bad won 6, drawn 5, lost 2. If we can get a draw up there, then I reckon we've got a great chance of progressing though as they've won just the once away from home! Still a massive anti-climax though, I feel like a kid getting socks for Christmas.

I think if we're both honest, this draw is a bit of a disappoint - we were both hoping for one of the big boys. On the plus side, we're at home with a decent record since Brian Little took over and you've got Lee Trundle!!! I really wish we had made more of an effort to sign him when he came to speak to us before going to Swansea. Here's to a great game - in the meantime, could you have a word with Trundle and tell him he shouldn't play for at least 3 weeks with that cheekbone injury .
