Nugent Appointed As Kenny's Number Two

Nugent Appointed Number Two

The club announced this afternoon that Nugent will combine his role as reserve team manager with that of Jackett's assistant after initially being released from his playing contract at the end of last season. The Swans though retained his playing registration when they took him on as part of their coaching staff.

Speaking at the time of Nugent's appointment as reserve team manager, Jackett commented "Kevin's a terrific lad who has a lot to offer the club," said Swansea manager Kenny Jackett. "He's been through promotion campaigns.

"He'll be reserve team manager but can also provide playing cover, that's important in the era of small squads."

Swans fans were calling for an experienced coach to be appointed as number two to Jackett to provide the experience that a relatively new manager requires. Most of the summer has seen calls for a number two to Jackett to be appointed and only last week, the poll on JackArmy.net showed that over 90% of Swans fans believed that Jackett needed an assistant.

Maybe it was predictable that as time went on the appointment may come from within and so it has proved. Nugent has the coaching qualifications that he will need whether the combination of Jackett and Nugent will prove to be the dream team that we need remains to be seen and no doubt will be debated furiously on the message board in the coming hours. It is heavily suspected that Nuge was not first choice on this front.

But on this rate of promotion it is estimated that Nuge will be chairman before Easter.
