Celebrate The Vetch Field - The End Of An Era

On April 30 2005, the Swans will play their last ever fixture at the Vetch Field when Shrewsbury Town visit for the last League Two fixture of the 2004/5. Barring any play-off fixtures or FAW ties at the end of the season, all future matches will be played at a new stadium constructed on the site of the old Morfa Athletics stadium. An all seater 20,000 capacity stadium which the Swans will share with the Neath/Swansea Ospreys.

The Vetch Field has been home to the Swans for 93 years and although it is hard to dispute that the ground has been better days, it will be a sad occasion for Swans fans everywhere when they say goodbye to the old girl, but at the same time a new stadium brings new possibilities and has to benefit the club in the long run.

On the same basis that we have commemorated the rise of the new stadium with our section, we will be commemorating the end of the Vetch in the same kind of way with photos, news and views on the Vetch Field. We have been behind the scenes at the Vetch Field and will publish over the next six months a series of photographs which will commemorate the end of this very special era.

Fans wishing to commemorate the end of the era other than in this section should consider the purchase of an official Vetch box set which are available in limited numbers at £150 each. You can find out more by clicking here.

As part of this celebration, we want to hear from you - the fans as to your memories of the Vetch Field, it's players, games, stands and terraces so that this section becomes a memory for future Swans generations to visit and although the Vetch will not have been part of their lifetime as a Swans fan, they will know how much it meant to all of us.

You can complete the questionnaire on the Vetch by clicking this link. Please feel free to answer as many or as few questions as you like. We may contact you once we have received your questionnaire to elaborate on some of your answers so that we can produce them as an article to keep in our Vetch memories section of the site. If we don't, your memories will still be recorded and added to the site.

As we count down to the end of a Vetch we will be holding a series of polls to find out who the fans think is the best manager ever to take charge at the Vetch for the Swans, and the all time greatest player that the Swans have held at the Vetch as well as a series of photographs taken behind the scenes together with views of the Vetch Field.

The Vetch Field - so many happy memories.
