Devaney Also A Target Say Reports

Devaney Also On List?

Cheltenham Town midfielder Martin Devaney has been linked with a move to Swansea City. The Welsh club, who are third in Coca-Cola League Two, are looking to sign a left-sided wide player to boost their automatic promotion bid. They have already had bids turned down for Bristol City's Marc Goodfellow and Rushden and Diamonds' Andy Burgess. Devaney has spent most of his career on the right for Cheltenham, but he has impressed this season on the left flank, including with a goal in the 4-1 win over Rushden on Saturday. Cheltenham have been awaiting offers for Devaney since he was transfer-listed on January 5 after failing to agree a new contract.

Cheltenham boss John Ward has said he does want the 24-year-old to leave Whaddon Road, but if he does, the club intended to receive a fee for him. Devaney is free to talk to other clubs during the last six months of his current contract and can leave the club for nothing at the end of the season under the Bosman ruling. Cheltenham have said they will keep their offer to Devaney open until the end of the season. Ward said he had not been contacted by Swansea about Devaney. "I'd be very surprised if it was true. Kenny Jackett (Swansea manager) and I are very good friends and I talked to him only on Friday and Devaney's name was not mentioned," he said. "It was just a "how are you getting on" conversation. "There have been a total of three inquiries about Devaney, all of them on the first day his name was circulated and all asking what the situation was."
