Jackett's New Boys Hit The Spot

So far in January we have spent less than £200,000. We have acquired a goal scorer who over the course of a season I think will challenge Trundle in the goal stakes, a pretty accomplished looking midfielder and a defender who has a Chelsea pedigree. Not bad work for a side that some cynics claimed would do nothing in January eh?

Of course its early days and 90 minutes against the worst team in the division may not be the toughest test for a debut but you can only do what you can do against the opposition in front of you. Knight and Williams combined with their team mates and both made an immediate impact in the 3-1 win.

And if the reports are to be believed then we haven't finished there. Rory Fallon is still linked with Swansea according to reports as could Darren Way be as well. Add to that Andy Sandell from Bath and there could be plenty of mileage left in the contract signing pen this month.

I have to say that the signing of Knight was inspired. Unexpected and inspired. We knew he was a good player and good players aren't always available. Let alone at the knock down price of £125,000. Putting it into perspective Jon Parkin went for £100,000 and Izale McLeod is being touted around at somewhere between 1 and 2 million. A bargain? I think so.

Steve Watt has arrived on a free transfer. With a Chelsea pedigree. That has to be good and he has special raves from the 'special one' himself. Again no mean feat. Chelsea must also still think he will go somewhere with a sell on clause in his contract. One for the future? I suspect one for the present but I could be wrong.

Tom Williams was universally slated when we signed him. I was pleasantly surprised by his performance last night and he reminds me a little of OTJ in style. Another piece of good business from Kenny? Could well be based on the early signs.

And of course added to last nights side we await the return from injury of LT10 and Izzy coupled with longer term absentees in KOL and OTJ - we're starting to have a very strong looking squad now and full credit to everyone involved for putting it together?

There needs to be a couple more additions in the right places and I remain confident that they will come. And then it really is watch out League One.

Great times to be a Jack
