Dean has made a welcome return to Valley Parade having re-signed for Bradford City in July 2003.

He first played for the Bantams from March 1999 for two years before a £1m move to join Middlesbrough. He started his league career with Hull City in October 1991. Aberdeen snapped him up four years later when they paid £700000 for his signature and in his three years at Pittodrie he scored 23 goals in 78 appearances for the Dons.

He moved back south to join Oxford United in July 1998 and in less than a season he scored 15 goals in 33 games for the U's. Bradford brought him to West Yorkshire in March 1999 and he soon became a firm favourite with the fans. But two years later he was on his travels again joining 'Boro in March 2001. He didn't become a First Team regular at the Riverside Stadium and spent periods on loan at Sheffield Wednesday and rivals Sheffield United before a permanent move to Bramall Lane in January 2003.

This season he is coaching the Reserves at Valley Parade alongside David Wetherall and Wayne Jacobs, although he has made a contribution to the First Team, scoring 12 goals in 31 games.
