Jackett Calls For Reinforcements

Reinforcements On The Way

It's been a quiet and uninteresting summer so far but it appears that reinforcements will soon be on their way even if it also means that more may depart the door marked 'exit' at the Liberty Stadium

It appears as if Thomas Butler will arrive from Hartlepool whilst Kevin Amankwaah will leave Yeovil to join the Swansea challenge. The Evening Post reports that both selling clubs have agreed to bids from the Swans and it is now a case of personal terms being agreed with discussions on both said to be at an 'advanced stage'

Winger Butler requested a transfer from Hartlepool following their relegation from League Two last season with the Evening Post having this to say about him

"Known for his ability to beat a man, the left-sided 25-year-old played 36 games for Sunderland - including 19 in the Premiership - after coming through their youth ranks. Born in Dublin and capped twice by his country four seasons ago, he then had a spell in the Scottish Premier League with Dunfermline before joining Hartlepool in the spring of 2005. He played in Pools' League One play-off final defeat by Sheffield Wednesday 14 months ago and was one of the more consistent performers in a torrid campaign for the club last term. He has been out of the first-team picture in pre-season, though, and looks certain to leave Victoria Park with Barnsley and Bournemouth also rumoured to be interested."

It is believed that a fee of less than £50,000 will secure the services of Butler but it make take several more £ to prise defender Amankwaah from Yeovil. On him the Evening Post say

"A powerful 6ft 1in 24-year-old with the ability to get forward, he has also played in the centre of defence and could cost Swansea as much as £250,000. Amankwaah began his career at Bristol City - he made 60 appearances for the Robins - before joining Yeovil in February 2005. Significantly, given Jackett's background, he turned down an offer from Queens Park Rangers before signing for the Glovers."

It is possible that both players could sign ahead of the Swans game against Exeter on Saturday whilst both are likely to feature if they do sign in the league opener against Cheltenham on August 5.
