Izzy Arrested And Bailed

Izzy Arrested In City 'Incident'

Swans defender Izzy Iriekpen was arrested in the early hours of Sunday morning on suspicion of causing Actual Bodily Harm.

The defender was arrested on the Kingsway after an argument outside Time and Envy and spent the rest of the night in the cells just hours after scoring his second goal in a week at Newport in the FA Cup.

No charges have yet been placed in front of him and he has been released on bail pending further investigations. The club have not yet decided what action, if any, will be taken with director David Morgan telling the Evening Post "The club was made aware of an incident involving one of our players that occurred in the early hours of Sunday,. "As it is a police matter, we can make no further comment at the moment. "The club will take any action once the police have made a decision about how to proceed with the case."

Whilst a spokesman for the police said: "A 24-year-old man from Birchgrove was arrested in the early hours of Sunday. "He has been put on police bail pending further inquiries."

Swans fan Craig Davies, of Swansea Road, Waunarlwydd, said: "It is a shame when players get arrested like this. "Youngsters look up to these people and it does not give a good impression of them or the club."

Kenny Jackett was naturally disappointed at another turn of events that will bring people to question the discipline at the club and he told the Post ."We will discipline Izzy but not before we have got all the facts, "At the moment all we know is that he was arrested on Saturday night in the Kingsway after being involved in a fight. He has not been charged yet but has to go back to the police station on Thursday, December 14. "I've spoken to Izzy about what happened but we still need to gather information and to wait and see what he is charged with."

"The only thing I've got to say is that this is not the sort of incident I want my players involved in," he added. "It's a disappointment because we want to be known for entertaining football and winning football."

But Jackett would not be drawn on whether he would be dropping Izzy as he had done previously to Andy Robinson.
