Jackett Returns To On Field Distractions

Jackett: Back To The Football

Kenny Jackett was ready to put the trials and tribulations of the last seven days behind him today as the Swans returned to League action with a trip to Port Vale.

It's been a long week with the sage over Izzy's arrest and the news that half our midfield is missing with injury with Jackett already having been in the loan market with the capture of Marcos Painter from Birmingham City.

But it was the off the field discipline that was on Jackett's mind when he was speaking to the Western Mail "I've definitely had more discipline problems than I would've liked,

"My heart did sink when I heard Izzy had been arrested.

"I was disappointed that he put himself in that situation, he shouldn't have done.

"I don't expect the players to live like monks. People socialising with wives, girlfriends, family or friends to some degree is fair enough.

"But as professionals in the public eye we must make sure we don't overstep the mark. Getting arrested is crossing that line and that's why Izzy had to be disciplined.

"You have to realise that Swansea's not like London, Birmingham or Manchester where people disappear into different areas and basically get lost.

"It's one street and everything is transparent.

"There's nothing wrong with that, but my players must take more responsibility to act like professionals."

It was expected that Izzy would line up against Vale this afternoon but the team news from Vale Park showed that he had been dropped to the bench with Lawrence and Austin preferred at the centre of defence.

But with that incident now behind him Jackett will be hoping that his questions next week will revolve more around what happens on the pitch then what happens off it.
