You can guarantee that when Duffy finally put pen to paper for the Swans last month he never expected the Spanish influence to rub off onto him quite so strongly nor in the way that it actually happened.

Duffy missed two matches on the Dutch Tour following a bout of illness which stemmed from eating paella. Duffy is now being forced to step up his training regime to make sure he can make his second competitive Swansea debut at Oldham a week on Saturday.

Speaking to the Western Mail, Duffy said "As well as feeling really weak and ill, it was really frustrating as I needed to catch up with my fitness. I was behind anyway because of the transfer

"I came back from holiday with jetlag and once I got over that I picked up a stomach bug from eating some paella. It really knocked me for six and took me a while to get over it.

"In three days I lost five kilograms, so I've still got a while to go before I'm where I want to be. It has set me back quite a few days.

"I feel back to my old self, but it certainly wasn't pleasant or ideal.

Despite the illness Duffy was a regular scorer on the Dutch tour - netting in both the 2-0 win over Schipluiden and also the more impressive 2-2 draw with Sparta Rotterdam which ended the tour on Wednesday night. And with just the one friendly game remaining - Sunday against Levante - Duffy is happy with his form "I've had a decent pre-season and that follows on from the seven goals in seven games at the end of the last season," he said.

"So I'm putting a bit of pressure on myself now.

"It's always nice to get a few goals in friendlies as it does you no harm confidence-wise when the season kicks off.

"I've never been one to set records, but hopefully I will bang in a few goals and help get Swansea promoted.

"Trunds leaving was obviously a blow for us, but it hasn't changed what I need to do whatsoever

"I was brought here to score goals and help us get into the Championship, and that's still my ultimate aim."

And maybe leaving off the paella is something new on the menu!
