Britton's Fight For Starting Place

Britton's Fight For Place

Leon Britton declared himself fit for Swansea's home game with Hartlepool on Saturday but is well aware that he faces a real battle to earn his place back in the side.

Britton was an ever present in the Swans league line up when he hobbled out of the 2-1 win at Cheltenham last month and without him the Swans have picked up 13 of the 18 points available to lift themselves to the top of the tree. And with fellow injury absentee Andy Robinson also fit again, Britton is ready for the fight as he tried to convince Roberto that he should dislodge Butler, Anderson and Orlandi who have shared the wide men duties in the absence of the season's starters.

"The boys have been flying,'' declared Britton via the club's official website. "They haven't just been winning, but scoring a lot of goals as well, especially away from home.

"We've all got a massive fight on our hands to get back in the side, especially me and Robbo (Andy Robinson) because Tom Butler and Paul Anderson have been on fire out wide.

"But I found myself out of the side here a couple of season ago. I had to get my head down then and work hard to get back in - and that's what I've got to do again.''

Britton is unlikely to feature in the starting line up on Saturday although he may well feature on the bench with Roberto expected to name an unchanged side from that which started the 4-1 rout of Bournemouth last Sunday with Warren Feeney keeping his place against another player returning from injury in Darryl Duffy.
