Saints At Birmingham The Verdict
Saints At Birmingham The Verdict

Saints couldnt make it four in a row at St Andrews.

Perhaps it was tiredness or perhaps it was the fact that Birmingham City are a very well drilled side, but the scoreline read Birmingham City 1 Saints 0, however once again Saints proved that they could mix it with the best sides in the division.

It was always going to be a tall order to make it four wins on the trot but a point looked likely especially in the first half where Saints had the better of the game and were desperately unlucky to concede right on the stroke of half time.

In the second half the changes were rung by Mark Wotte bt never really took much effect as he tried to take the bull by the horns and chase an equaliser, sadly the changes didnt quite work.

But Saints can be pleased with the days work in that it was another confidence booster and gives a great platform to build on for the two home games in the next week, two straight victories in those would put Saints firmly in the driving seat for safety.

Its a measure of how Saints have improved in that this is a disapointing result, lets be blunt after the defeat at Bristol City it would have taken a brave man to predict three straight wins, and indeed the win at Ipswich means that this defeat is not a disaster, nine points from the last four games is a reasonable total, but for it to mean anything Saints need to win the next two.

It would be remiss of me to go before mentioning the Birmingham support, I have often been accused of criticsising Saints crowds this season however Birmingham are pushing for promotion and could not even get 17,000 in the ground including around 1,500 Saints fans, truth is if the positions were reversed we would have got a gate of around 22-23000 for this fixture, the Birmingham crowd also lacked noise and passion, something that cant be levelled at those Saints supporters who have attended games this season.
