Pintado And Scotland To Team Up?
Pintado And Scotland To Team Up?

Roberto has hinted that he could play both Jason Scotland and Gorka Pintado today - even if only for part of the game

The Swans boss was speaking as he prepared his side for toda's televised clash at Plymouth and on the back of a successful debut for Pintado - and a scoring one at that - against Nottingham Forest last weekend.

There have been suggestions that Scotland and Pintado would be more than a handful for most Championship defences but Roberto has always preferred to play with one recognised striker at home.    However, away from home he has quite often preferred the two pronged attack and that could see the striking duo start up front.

Two weeks ago it seemed that it was which one of the two would partner Bussy up front after his prolofic pre-season but he didn't feature at all on the pitch last weekend and has dropped down the rankings for now behind both Scotland and Gorka and seemingly Febian Brandy as well but that will be a temporary thing as the Swans look to utilise their own squad.

Speaking in today's Western Mail on his options, the Swans manager said “Good players can play together, no matter who they are or the styles they have

“That’s a huge strength to call on, but that’s what happens when you put together quality players in a squad.

“The only concern you have then is to have them on top of fitness levels and enjoying their football because, after, that they will score many goals.

“They are both available and they will both have a role.

“I wouldn’t say Gorka is 100 per cent yet, but he’s close to it, and his confidence is, as you would expect after his little cameo against Forest.

“That was a clear example of what he is as a player; very clever with good movement, very powerful and someone who understands what’s needed to play in that different role.

“Swansea fans have already taken to him and he won’t disappoint them.

“Jason is fit and available too and he played a massive part in the win last week. They both did and it shouldn’t be any different during the season.

“We will be in situations – depending where we are playing, how we are playing, where we are in terms of fitness – where some individuals will be needed at different times.

“And we have those options, especially up front. Bussy (Guillem Bauza) had a fantastic pre-season, Febian Brandy always looks lively and keeps growing as a player, and then you have Gorka and Jason, who showed what they can do against Forest. They are all fantastic combinations and it is now down to them how many minutes they get.

“I don’t think anyone can expect a place in the team because everyone knows how fierce the competition is, there’s a huge respect in the dressing room and I don’t think anyone takes for granted their position or expects anything. The approach to that has been fantastic and I’m sure that’s what’s need to be competitive in this division.”
