Allen: Manchester United Draw Was A Dream
Tuesday, 17th Feb 2009 09:59

Swansea City midfielder Joe Allen has admitted playing Manchester United would be a dream come true.

Supporting the Old Trafford club from a young age , the Carmarthen born product has revealed his delight at the thought of playing against childhood heroes Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs as he told the SWEP, he said “Paul Scholes is someone I have always admired as a footballer. He is a player I try to pick things up from and then emulate. Then obviously, as a Welshman, there is Ryan Giggs as well. He is another hero of mine. He is a player who is known and admired around the world, and for that to be true of a Welshman just shows how special he is.”

He added "He is someone who has inspired me along with many other people I'm sure.To play against those two would be a very nice experience."

Wearing the “glory hunter” tag with pride the 18 year old only was disappointed that the players, staff and fans are not already looking forward to a home draw against the World, European and Premiership champions, "I'm obviously just a glory hunter,To be fair my family all supported Manchester United. so I just followed the trend..It was the draw I wanted because I've supported them since I was a little kid. And I think it was probably the draw pretty much every Swansea fan was hoping for.

"To play at home is massive, but to do it against the best team in the world is something to dream about. The only disappointment when I was watching the draw was that we are not through to the quarter-finals already."

On the 24th February, Swansea travel to Craven Cottage in a replay but after drawing such a lucrative tie in the ;ast eight it will be a huge incentive for the players to go out and put the 1-1 draw right as the midfielder now adds, “We couldn't have a better incentive. There's added pressure on us to try to get a result at Fulham now but, if we can play the way we did against them at home, I don't see why we can't go and do the same at their place. And if we can put in a similar performance, we have a chance of getting through."

Turning his attention back to league matters the thought of facing the likes of Manchester United and Fulham week in week out is enough to focus the mind and get a result against Watford this evening admits Allen "The problem with the cup can be that you take your eye off the league.but that's obviously the priority for us this season. We all know how important Watford is because if we get to the play-offs, we could end up playing teams like Fulham and Manchester United every week next season."
