Monk: I Think Of The Play-Offs Every Day

Garry Monk has admitted that he thinks of the play-offs every day when he wakes up

The Swansea City captain is currently out of the side with an injury but is watching from the sidelines as the Swans continue to flirt with the play-off positions on their first season in the Championship.

And that alone has generated some optimism around the city that the 'impossible dream' could almost become reality as they start looking up the table at the Premiership just above them.

And Monk says that it is something that is on his mind and something he is asked about constantly by supporters.

Speaking to Wales on Sunday, Monk said “The play-offs and promotion are something I wake up and think of every morning.

“You wake up, switch Sky Sports on and see the league tables coming up and you think, ‘Wow! We’re this close’. And going around the city, everyone wants to talk to you about it.

“But you can’t get carried away. We’re a down to earth bunch of lads, and it’s so boring to say, but we’re taking each game as it comes.

“We have to win our home games,” said the 30-year-old.

“It helps that we’ve lost just twice on our own patch. And we feel we’re good enough to pick up points away from home.

“It’s bizarre that no-one’s really running away with the league and everyone is dropping points.

“But where we are now with eight games to go, it’s a golden chance to reach the Premier League, probably the best some of us will ever have.

“If we win our two games this week, I think that will be those teams out of the running,” he said. “But if we don’t and they pick up points, it’ll turn on its head.

“This is a crucial period going into the international break. If we can go unbeaten until then, it will put us in a strong position when we come back, especially with the Cardiff game on April 4.

“It would be nice to secure our place and not have to worry about it coming into the last couple of games of the season.”
