Roberto Martinez is set to step up his interest in bringing striker Jason Scotland to Wigan.

Already adding former Swansea midfielder Jordi Gomez to his new regime at the JJB, should Martinez wish to make a move for the Trinidad and Tobago international, the Spaniard will face competition from Burnley who had a bid thought to be in the region of £1.5 million including add-ons rejected last week.

Scoring over 50 goals for the club since his £25,000 move from St Johnston back in 2007, the Morvant born forward has been looking for a move to the premier league but this summer the resolve of the board to keep hold of the striker will be tested but Swans chairman Huw Jenkins has revealed that the Manchester club want to be kept informed of any developments as he told the SWEP, he said “"I have had a chat with Wigan about Jason Scotland. They have not made an offer, but they have asked to be kept informed of Jason's situation."

Portuguese legend Paulo Sousa is expected to be unveiled as the successor to Martinez later today.
