Huw Jenkins says that Paulo Sousa is being hampered by large wage demands by players he is targetting

Sousa has been widely criticised for failing to sign more players since his arrival at the Liberty Stadium back in June but his Chairman insisted that it was not for the want of trying as players are demanding to more than double the club's wage structure.

Speaking to the Evening Post, Jenkins said "I am not going to talk about particular names but I will give you an idea.

"A few of the players we have tried to get in are experienced Championship players aged around 28 to 30.

"We have gone down the route of agreeing fees with the clubs but to make these players move they are asking us in some cases to double our wage structure.

"On top of that they want three year contracts.  High wages are the nature of the Championship more than ever.

"They have gone up by 30 per cent this summer because of the clubs now involved and the money they are throwing around.   That makes things a lot more difficult for us but we are staying strong and hopefully we will prove to be right.

"We will do things our way just as we have done for the past five years.

"We will make a few signings undoubtedly.   Paulo has come in and he is new to everything so it's taken time.  But there will be movement definitely.

"We have lost two players from last season and we have brought in Stephen Dobbie and Jordi Lopez as well as securing Nathan Dyer on a permanent contract.

"But we know we need to try to strengthen following on from last season by bringing in two or three players and that's what we're looking to do now.

"I understand everybody's frustration about the lack of signings and everyone will be a lot happier when we bring a couple in.

"However I am confident about how things are going to go when all our injured players are back and we make the signings which are required."
